Apple had a pretty good quarter.
And by pretty good, I mean it was the biggest quarter in history. And not just for Apple. For any company. Ever.
This page charts the past record holders. Until today, Russias Gazprom (the largest natural gas extractor in the world) held the record at $16.2 billion in a quarter.
Apple now holds the record: $18.04 billion in profit, fiscal Q1 of 2015.
Absolutely. Insane.
For reference, that means Apple makes around $8.3 million dollars per hour in profit (24 hours a day).
Of the current Top 20 record holding earners, 15 are Oil/Gas producers primarily ExxonMobil and Shell. The other five are all Apple, over various quarters.
adjusted for inflation to June 2011
1. Apple, 2015 1Q $18.04 billion
2. Gazprom, 2011 1Q $16.24 billion
3. Royal Dutch Shell, 2008 2Q $15.68 billion
4. ExxonMobil, 2008 3Q $$14.80 billion
5. Apple, 2014 1Q $13.10 billion
6. Apple, 2013 1Q $13.08 billion
7. Apple, 2012 1Q $13.06 billion

Apple has never been the lowest-common denominator, bargain-rate brand. They make high-end and mid-high-end gear for people who care more about things that work right and are willing to pay for that.
That's the profit motive, done right. Good for Apple.
I just wish I had some of their stock... damn. *sigh*
We now worship phones.
Hahahahaha...I know. I convinced my wife years back to buy Apple when it was $12 a share...heh, she sold it when it got to $25!
I didn’t find out until later when the stock got up around $50 and I commented on how great that was and she said she had sold it at $25...well, I couldn’t complain. In general, that stuff doesn’t interest me, and she is good at it.
I just had an emotional tie to it, liked saying I had a stake in a company whose product I really liked, but to her, it was just stock. Better that way...:)
You made money
Don’t look back
So true. That’s why I don’t get involved with it...she is far better at it because it interests her. Me, it is a chore.
Always give the job to the person who is interested in it...:)
American capitalism at its best!
Love Apple. I bought two I-Phone 6 phones for Christmas. I have to update my MacBook soon as it is 4 years old. A great company. Walmart, Apple and Amazon have done more good for this country than any other in history.
Although i have yet to transition from PC to Mac, I am all in for other Apple devices. I laughed the other day because I was watching streaming through Apple TV, working on my iPad, my iPhone sitting next to me, and my old iPod on the bedside table, which I still use as an alarm. It’s remarkable. I go to sleep using their products and wake up to two devices...for my alarm and then jump online while I am waking up on the iPad. This coming from an Apple skeptic until a few years ago. There are other good products out there, no doubt, but what they have produced is damn good.
All over a stupid cell phone, what is called a smart phone.
In my opinion the bane of society today. There is absolutely no way to calculate how much productive time is pizzed away by workers texting, facegooking, streaming, etc. Go into a restaurant and what is everybody doing, yep cell phones. Our kids cannot read or spell but they can speed type some pervert kind of shorthand on their cell phone.
Heck, teachers can’t teach kids because of cell phones. Parents raise holy hell when schools talk about restricting them at school.
Untold number of people killed and property damaged or destroyed because of drivers texting while driving.
I absolutely hate cell phones.
I just bought some more last week ;-)
Yawn.

Not quite up to their high price of 119.1 back in November, but getting pretty close.
My granddaughter went crazy over the new telephoto lens for my iPhone, when she got to try it last night. Totally crazy; she thinks her grandpa is cool! In her very words.
Who says you can't buy cool? I would have loved to have the technology back when I was an aerial photographer for the Navy!
What will finally break you from the PC is buying a Mac that can run Windows 7 in a virtual machine like a desktop app window at only about an 8% performance hit versus Windows running natively on the same hardware. You need Windows, you just tab to it.
Slowly, you find yourself not needing Windows for a thing anymore unless you’re slaved to a Microsoft shop in your workplace requirements — and there’s not a lot of people in IT who absolutely have to run Windows natively on the machine right in front of them when logging into their workplace PC via VPN will do. Does that describe you or not?
Once you stop needing Windows, you’re officially a non-smoker. You just wake up one morning and realize you don’t smoke their lousy cigarettes anymore.
If you’ve got all Apple gear but still use a PC desktop, you’re really hobbling yourself for no good reason unless you can think of one right now. Microsoft sure can’t come up with one.
Microsoft Corporation has pretty much proven to the world in the three latest versions of Windows that no typical user needs them anymore, and we’re just about to see if anyone wants their operating system for *free*.
In other news, Microsquish down 9.25% on the day.
I actually find that saddening.
A little inflation don’t hurt.
