Apple had a pretty good quarter.
And by pretty good, I mean it was the biggest quarter in history. And not just for Apple. For any company. Ever.
This page charts the past record holders. Until today, Russias Gazprom (the largest natural gas extractor in the world) held the record at $16.2 billion in a quarter.
Apple now holds the record: $18.04 billion in profit, fiscal Q1 of 2015.
Absolutely. Insane.
For reference, that means Apple makes around $8.3 million dollars per hour in profit (24 hours a day).
Of the current Top 20 record holding earners, 15 are Oil/Gas producers primarily ExxonMobil and Shell. The other five are all Apple, over various quarters.
Not we
Some
I’m ambivalent about Apple
My main question is how do people date anymore
Women are addicted to social media etc
Guys to games
Man
I’m glad I missed all that
I see young couples both staring at phones instead of talking while out at dinner
Totally oblivious
I have to bitch at my rib to put her’s down when I get home
She lives in Facebook...drudge...Instagram...breibart.....FR.......INSTAGRAM.....PINTREST.....NET A PORTER......PAGE six
And so forth
i post here in the tub or in bed late or when waiting on someone in my truck
My phone is for communication for work and family
Amen
Anyway to go back further than that say 100 years ago?
Remember when Jimmy Carter railed against “obscene profits” from the oil companies? You won’t hear that about Apple (nor should you), because a) they are cool, and b)Tim Cook is in a protected class.
Not that I know of. . . but there were no no global companies of comparable size then. Perhaps the British might have had something in their Tea trading company but I doubt it.
Make up stuff much? Apple's 10-Q for the quarter being reported puts it's aggregate profit margin before taxes at 39.1% and their tax rate is 26.3% on that. Microsoft used to report an approximate 60% margin. . . but then they only sold software then.
Look at the profit margin. For Exxon and Walmart, its like 8% and 2.5% respectively; for Apple (AAPL), it is like 58%.

Sorry. I think we may be. I just don't want the anti-Apple people to latch onto it because of erroneous facts. My abject apologies. Mea Culpa for not realizing you were a fellow traveler.
Well, for me, it is because when ACD Systems bought out Canvas, my "workhorse" app for cartography and all other things graphic, the PC weenies killed off Mac development at rev X.
They have made noises about re-starting Mac support -- but, I haven't seen any running evidence, yet...
Canvas is now up to rev 16 for the PC, so, when the non-intel 17" MBP I'm using to run Canvas X (on OSX 10.5) dies, I'll move to the latest Mac and run Windows & Canvas 16 virtually...
