Looking at the glorious NON-EVENT that was this BS blizzard, I ask that we conservatives teach our friends how to see the dangers of the nanny state.
Think about it....media, politicians and "scientists" in the government all worked together to SHUT DOWN commerce, freedom of movement, etc.
I know this would be easy to let them off the hook and say "Well, they did their best, better safe than sorry, etc."
I think, however, that this splendidly demonstrates that these entities think of themselves as overlords who KNOW better than their citizenry how to conduct themselves in a potential crisis.
I grew up where schools shut down if the weather was REALLY REALLY bad, but NEVER did we have a governor threaten us with arrest or tell us to not open our business.
The American pioneers would laugh in the face of Cuomo, Malloy, Christie, and the rest. We should too.
Juno huh? Maybe they can name the next one “Eglecias”.
I’ve not taken issue with government choosing to close schools.
That’s my point. If we’re supposed to be free people with limited government involvement in our lives, then why are there government schools in the first place? I can’t think of anything that does more to put your freedom and liberty at risk than sending your children off to a government-run school to be indoctrinated by agents of that government.
You and I might stay off the roads, but the blizzard of ‘78 proved just how stupid people are. Since 1978 I believe people have become much stupider (is that a word??).
I don’t like big government, but one of the necessary functions is public safety and public works (roads included). I’ll give them a pass on this one.
And... You are correct. Government seems to be wrong more often than not.
“You and I might stay off the roads, but the blizzard of 78 proved just how stupid people are.”
—
And how exactly did they prove their stupidity?
It started on Monday and very quickly became severe. Lots of people didn’t make it home from work. That’s stupid?
.
A different issue, but you’re right that schools indoctrinate children.
Ours have been privately educated.
BUMP
Shepard Smith was just on claiming that this was the first use of a brand new (very expensive) US built weather forecasting model... and he claims that it was “spot on” and worked PERFECTLY.
You are correct. The blizzard of 78 was not well forecasted and got severe suddenly forming in place over the gulf stream. There were many other similar storms that passed out to sea harmlessly.

Just NW of Boston here. Twenty eight inches and still snowing.
Hate to tell you, but on radar it looks like the storm is retrograding westward instead of moving off to the NE.
We can send that one on to them
Maybe they could have naming contests!
Absolutely! And I’d like to name this next one “Winter Storm Faux-Pas”, as I think a bunch of us are going to get P-wnd by it!
