A woman is suing Target, alleging her son committed suicide after being forced to take part in a humiliating disciplinary event in front of co-workers and customers at the Pasadena store where he worked as a cashier.
...
Her son jumped to his death from the roof of the Courtyard Marriott in Monrovia on July 18, three days after he was required by Target management to take part in what the suit calls a walk of shame.
According to the complaint, police and store security met Graham Gentles immediately as he arrived for work, and, at the direction of two members of store management, was handcuffed and led before other store employees to an office.
...
He was questioned in the office, then later taken to the police station, according to the lawsuit. However, he was later released and never charged with any crime, according to the complaint.
...
The walk of shame is a Target policy to purposely cause shame, embarrassment and emotional distress to any Target employee who is suspected of stealing from Target, the suit states. The policy consists of employees being arrested and paraded in handcuffs through the Target store in full view of co-workers and customers.

Why would they charge him after he was dead?
If that is the reason he committed suicide then he was one seriously weak-minded person.
or could have been because he was upset at losing his job. Or it could have been guilt over ...I don’t know....being guilty. Give her $1.75 and some good advice: Quit trying to gouge some bucks.
They had pretty much better be EXTREMELY certain the person stole from them.
That is easier than looking at yourself
The asps I’ve known were above average intelligence, focused to a fault.
Sorry lady. Your son was a pussy. Not Target’s fault he took the coward’s say out.

WTF?
This article says he was marched because he was “suspected” of stealing. Not my idea of a smart business move. Of course, there’s probably a whole lot more to this story as it will eventually tumble out...
How pro-life of you. Hypocrite.
My point exactly. You’d best have more than suspicion before you do this — or you might get sued and/or have consequences like they got in this case. I’d be very careful with a policy like this.
Why not sue Marriott for letting him on the roof as well. Peg out the frivolity meter.
That’s for sure. Regardless if it results in a suicide, it is a terrible policy and one that is begging to be litigated.

I’m wondering the same thing too! In this country you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If it been me I’d sue the s*** out of them.
It’s a dreadful policy! You only humiliate a person after it’s been proven that he’s committed a crime. I don’t shop much in Target (there’s not one near me) but if I saw this, it would revolt me and stop me from shopping there in the future.
Damn right! Ever heard of “innocent till PROVEN guilty”? I hope the mom wins millions.
That might be a bit harsh, but it might also be a bit accurate.
You ever been to a Target?
Not too many manning the cash registers there with M.B.A.’s
And a bucket load without high school diplomas.
