Oreo's latest twist on its best-selling cookie: a red velvet makeover in time for Valentine's Day.
The latest limited edition Oreos, with red cookies and cream cheese-flavored filling, are set to hit shelves in early February. The red velvet variety marks the first time Oreo has had a new cookie color since 2004, when the Golden Oreo debuted.
Red velvet cake has been around for decades. The cake is distinguished by its dark red color and often has a cream cheese icing. The flavor has gained a following in recent years in everything from cupcakes to whoopee pies.
"It's something that's classic, but I think what people have done in the last several years is reinterpret it," said Janda Lukin, senior director of Oreo North America, a unit of Deerfield-based Mondelez International.

New Fruity Oreos.....
In a vareity of flavors including Peach.. Plum. “Berry”. Banana, Lemon...and Obie!!
I have the slightly queasy feeling that after the “pumpkin spice” orgy of last October-November, red velvet is going to be the new overproduced nightmare.
While well-made versions of the above are tolerable, or even tasty in moderation, the vast majority that are produced are going to be loathsome to a degree, sucking all the pleasure from the flavor, like “chocolate flavor” compared to real chocolate.
Sounds tasty ... I use the lemon Oreos (crumbled) as a “crust” for a cream cheese-cool whip-pudding “lush” dessert instead of a flour-butter-pecan crust.
If Consumer America keeps on letting Corporate America off the hook for destroying the country's values, then yes, BUYING the cookie you like when you know the profits go to fund the gay agenda is INDEED supporting the gay agenda.
Boycotts can be effective, but are only as effective as the discipline in them.
Willing to try them, but Mint Oreos are still a favorite.
We dont patronize Nabisco because of their support for the gay movement.

Same here.
Made by the pro-homosexualist company?
Hydrox is long gone, known universally to be inferior to Oreos. But they still make the vanilla cookies that I still very much enjoy. Hmmm. Vanilla.
Well, I’m skeptical. The problem is that the cake part of red velvet cake doesn’ have a distinctive flavor. So this new OREO will be a neutral cookie against a neutral filling. The magic of a classic OREO is in the intense flavor of the cookie, and this won’t have that.
I’ll still probably give them a try though!
Oh noes! Just when I was getting serious about dieting, these fiends find another temptation to torture me with. My favorite cake is Red Velvet with cream cheese icing, so ...
I hate red velvet. Don’t know what it is, the nasty taste of the food coloring?
Tastes like chemicals.
So, you would subsidize them?
Our purchase is our VOTE. There is almost nothing more powerful in the marketplace. If every conservative would actually educate themselves, stop being so lazy, and go to the trouble of avoiding these companies (and yes, it is work), this propaganda would disappear overnight!
The cookies taste good. Which is what I want from cookies. I don’t punish myself for the behavior of others.
“We dont patronize Nabisco because of their support for the gay movement.”
We need a list of all companies that support the gay movement so we can all boycott.
