Okay so I recently hired a few recent college grads in technical roles and a conversation was struck up at the end of the day. The conversation was a result of a missed movie reference during another conversation earlier in the day. The type of thing where you assume some level of common culture so you don't have to explain in more detail.
What follows in my comment was the result and follow-on question for my fellow Freepers.
hehehe.
I was at the Fort in St Augustine, and the Park Ranger was talking about the Ravelin in front of the entrance.
I said : I know what is meant by Mamelon and Ravelin
and another tourist chimed in: “And i can tell at sight a Mauser rifle from a Javelin.”
The stunned Ranger had no idea that we were quoting Gilbert and Sullivan.
You pretty much hit my top 10 comedies. I'd rank Monty Python a little lower - my tastes lean to American Fare - but they're still in the top 10.
And your post reads like you're wanting an argument.....perhaps you should visit the clinic.
Office Space belongs on any serious list. As does Slap Shot.
Ooops, I meant Life of Brian, of course, not Holy Grail, on the shoe, gourd, and splinter quotes (submitting this while my original posting is still under review by mods before it gets posted, so I don’t look like an even bigger fool!)
How about “Better Off Dead”? It pokes fun at nearly every stereotype....”Two dollars, I want my TWO DOLLARS!!!”
OMG, I forgot Sid!! “San Franciscky! Did you drove or did you flew?”
True enough.
I've got a buddy that yells "STEEEEEEEEVE PERRY!" anytime we're trying to concentrate on something. Only he and I get it. :-(

My friends and I quote from Wedding Crashers all the time. Old School as well.
“Seinfeld” also became a part of the vernacular.
And this trend will continue but the shared experience of watching the same shows/episodes at the same time is falling off.
Some people will now bingewatch programs (whole seasons in the span of a few days).
Internet memes spread tropes and sayings that don’t even require knowing the original context.

I swear if you guys rip on me 13 or 14 more times... I’m outta here.
Isn't Ben Affleck going to start in the franchise reboot?
I still use the Helllllllllooooooooo from time to time.
I have used no soup for you and substituted soup for whatever I was holding at the time.
I quote Zoolander quite often. Dodge ball is another. Wedding crashers. Terminator and T2. Princess Bride.
Ferris Bueller is like a cult classic. When I am in a company meeting I can always gauge the age and interests of the attendees by seeing how they respond to quotes from that movie.
Yep, one of the most quotable movies ever, none of which can be posted here.....
I’d say “Dumb and Dumber” and “The Big Lebowski” are the most quoted comedies for my generation.
I forgot Star Trek. I use this one all the time:
“It’s dead, Jim”.
“You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free.”
