Harry Reid suffers severe injuries from freak exercise equipment accident. Rubber band breaks and smacks him in the face and he falls. Broken bones in face and ribs.

An assault would be consistent with the wounds. However, I suspect that for some reason, he strongly did not want whoever assaulted him to be arrested.
Further analyzing: because the bones in his face were on the right side, he may have been punched by a southpaw, probably young and strong. The follow up to the ribs was likely a kick when he was already down.
So the question becomes why?, which is a lot harder to answer. Reid has been in the pocket of the Mafia, involved in shady land deals where he was paid over $1m for land he didn’t own, likely crossed the Chinese who bribed him to get the Bundy lands, which blew up.
Bottom line is that Reid may be getting paid back for former dirty deals, corruption and not coming through after making promises. And whoever is doing it is powerful enough so they don’t *care* if Reid is obviously harmed. But Reid is too afraid of them to complain about it.

I don’t know how wimpy or nerdy he is. He was supposedly a boxer in his younger days. I don’t think boxers are wimpy. But you are right about his looks & demeanor. He looks more like a poodle than a boxer.

Reid is the character model for the senator in Godfather II, completely on the take. This is why obamaumao repeatedly visits Vegas, to pick up the cash payoffs to him. Criminals, all of them.
