FDA to ease ban on blood donations by gay men

Federal officials have moved closer to overturning a decades-old ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, but activists say the proposed alternative would continue to stigmatize men who have sex with men.

The Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday it will recommend lifting the lifetime ban early next year, replacing it with a policy barring donations from men who have had sex with another man in the previous 12 months. The change would overturn a 31-year-old policy that many medical groups and gay activists say is no longer justified, given advances in HIV testing.

But activists questioned whether requiring a year of celibacy from gay men amounted to a significant policy shift. …

There’s several factors at work here. Here’s the top two:

Any indication of stigma indicates an inferiority, so that has to be removed, because that brings in to play the whole Christian definitions of right and wrong.

Normal people “just don’t care enough” about the HIV issue because it doesn’t affect them. They have to be forced to care by infecting the general population.

All blood given by perverts and junkies should be labeled with a big skull and crossbones.But we can take comfort in the knowledge that Preasident Obala,his family,friends and trust funded supporters will never get that dirty blood.

I just went to Africa.Since I've been home the blood donor center of the hospital where I regularly give blood told me I can't give until 1 year after having left Africa (mainly because of malaria).It's easy to see the wisdom in such a policy but it now looks like I'll be able to announce "yah,I've been taking it up the bum for years" and I'll have no problem. (and BTW...I haven't,despite my screen name).

Did the FDA try to ask Arthur Ashe, Elizabeth Glaser (and her children) and the large number of hemophiliacs who died if “science has shown us that our current policy is not justified.” Do you think that the odds of a GAY man not having GAY sex with another GAY man or men for a year is better than 1 in 10,000?

I read science projects 50% of homosexuals will be HIV+ by age 50. I don’t think AIDS is a concern anymore, because of all the HIV medications, but living with HIV is horrible. Along with all the other problems, apparently it rots their brains.
Yeah, I think homosexuals want to infect heterosexuals with HIV.
