Full title: Cop charged with choking and beating a HOSPITAL PATIENT - after he tried to claim the victim attacked him but was caught on video
A San Francisco sheriff's deputy allegedly choked and beat a hospital patient who walked with a cane - then lied on the police report to cover his tracks. Michael Lewelling, 33, was accused of approaching a sleeping man as he started to wake up, knocking away his walking cane, grabbing his neck, then arresting him. He then filed a police report claiming that the man started the fight by attacking him with the cane, according to authorities, who say surveillance video proves he was lying.[snip]
The video shows Lewelling approaching the victim as he is starting to wake up. When the man attempts to walk away, the deputy grabs the back of his collar, pulls him back into the seat and knocks his cane away. 'A few seconds later, he appears to grab the victim's throat and begins to choke him. The battery continued, and the victim was then placed under arrest,' prosecutors said. 'The victim never raised his cane in a threatening manner,' they added.

Why do they have cops in the hospital? Are they there to shoot the patients?

No. Why would you think that? I can be angered by cops getting ambushed and I can be angered by cops assaulting citizens. Do you support the police even when they assault citizens?

Since cops just don’t go into hospitals and randomly attack patients, I wonder what occurred between these two that led to this attack ?
Not yet, but they hope to have their license in a few days.

San Francisco General and Oakland Highland Hospitals regularly have sheriff`s deputies and SF/Oakand Police, resp., on every floor and in the parking lots and all around the surrounding neighborhoods. Been there seen that yupyupyup
It is an interesting thought. Since they have video of the area where it occurred, I'm sure The DA looked at the tape for as far back as either of them were on it. Since the victim had been in the waiting area long enough to fall asleep, whatever might have happened must have been quite some time before. It begs the question of why the cop waited between the hypothetical first encounter and the assault encounter.

The murder of two cops is horrible, but there’s no excuse for a cop to lie about beating and choking someone who was not threatening him. Anyone who thinks otherwise might not belong on FreeRepublic....

These multiple topics are breaking now; the current topic about yesterday’s local news story in SF was obviously not breaking, but posted in response to these cop murders.
What occurred apparently is assault under the color of law, pejury, submitting a false police report etc. Do you imagine there is some back story that would justify such behavior by a sworn police officer?
