Beavers are contributing to climate change, adding an estimated 800 million kg of methane to the atmosphere every year, scientists have found.
Over the last century, there has been a worldwide conservation effort to save beavers from extinction. The fur trade between the 16th and 19th century almost led to the annihilation of beavers across the globe.

Gases have mass, it is measured in kilograms.
It is not a weight measurement.

All gases have weight. Gases are weighed lb/ft3 or kg/m3
at standard temperature and pressure (0C, 32F /14.504 psi, 1 Bar. Density of a gas is relative to air which is 1.0

but sometimes I see the measurment expressed in tons
that is weight, not mass
(Kg is used for both)

Don’t forget the polar bears. They are know for their gaseous emissions all across the Arctic.

Where do these alarmists get their ridiculous numbers? By my calculations, that’s almost 1.8 BILLION pounds of methane. That’s 880,000 TONS. Using the Ideal Gas Law, a mole of methane gas is 22.4 liters and weighs about 16 grams or 0.035 pounds.
That means 1.8 billion pounds of methane would occupy 1.152 TRILLION liters, or 1.152 billion cubic meters.
The volume of the Superdome in New Orleans is 155 million cubic meters.
Are we supposed to believe that beavers generate almost 7.5 Superdomes worth of farts every year?

Mass can be measured in tons.
You can measure it in pounds, slugs, electronvolts, Planck mass, solar mass, etc...
