>>I don’t want to join CA Covered because it’s ObamaCare. <<
For now, take care of your family. It was obozocare that put you behind the 8 ball so it is no shame to use it to get out from it.
Just plan that it will go away in 2 years. That gives you time to get an employer that can take care of things correctly.
The clock starts now.
Ping for help
Get everything that needs to be taken care of while you have insurance. Then, go commando, no coverage.
For $20 plus thousand you can have lots of stuff taken care of. Cash. Look for a concierge doctor. Or, just go to the local walk-in clinic. (Here, in Florida they cost about $250/visit.)
You won’t be covered if you need your arm sewn back on, but the chances of needing catastrophic care before Obamacare bites the big one (in 2017, I hope) is probably slight.
The absurdity of the Obamacare prices are that each of us now must spend the equivalent each year for a new car just for “coverage.” Very few can afford that. Obamacare will crash and burn and we will go back to something saner.
Are there people here using CA Care? Is it any good? Do doctors refuse it?
Any doctors in the house?
What is wrong with Kaiser? They do give great care.
CA Care?
I market health insurance and I am not familiar with that company. If you mean Covered California, then that only referes to the independent companies that participate in the program.
As a general rule, all of the insurance companies have seen a significant reduction in participation of doctors in California.
I am dying to go concierge. Buuuuuut, with four kids, one teen who drives, I’m scared of catastrophic needs. Also, this year I needed brain surgery. It might not be over. There isn’t any specialist concierge.
I wish there was such a thing any more as medical savings accounts!
Too many deaths I know of that seemed like medical neglect. The ability to sue a doctor gives you better care even if you would never sue,
The Leftist media couldn’t write enough stories about the $600 toilet seat bought by the Defense Dept., but they aren’t interested in writing about the $2500/ObamaCare family policy or the cheaper one that comes with a $12,000 deductible. They actually must think Middle Class workers have that kind of money, but they are so wrong.

It would be on my short list of things to consider if I lost my insurance, but it might not apply to you.
Whoops, yes I mean Covered CA.
This is your line: what advice would you give me? Best medical care and doctor choice for the buck?
No they do not. My experience with them has always been negative.
What is wrong with Kaiser? They do give great care.
True... care should still be good for the next couple of years and it is a very reasonable for a family. Figure on moving on in year 3. But you need to have creditable care in the next few years to avoid penalties...
ymmv
If Kaiser is covered under Ca Covered ( I live in a different state, so I am unfamiliar with CA Covered)- I would join Kaiser. Kaiser is an HMO, but not a bad one. No point in going bankrupt over this, join Kaiser if covered under Obamacare, and wait this out until Obamacare gets overturned.
What a great idea, but I believe you have to be Christian.
Isn’t it sick? We pay so much to be covered in case of emergency but EVEN WITH BRAIN SURGERY THIS YEAR WE PAID OUT MORE THAN IF WE HAD PAID CASH FOR EVERYTHING.
Insurance is regional, even within CA, so you might as well go to coveredca to see what is available, and for how much, then go buy from the insurance company directly.
I know that there is “hmo” coverage without having to use the carefully legally not responsible for anything that goes wrong kaiser. But I believe doc’s dont like hmo coverage.
I have called many a specialist to get an appt, and the bulldog lady at the front desk has an attitude with me and asks what insurance I have. When I say Aetna PPO, they get nicer and find me an appt.
What gets me in to all the best docs?
