There isn't any option for individual insurance other than the obamacare defined plans, that was the whole point of the law. The federal government dictates the to the insurance companies what the plans will be. You don't have to buy from coveredca, but even if you go directly to the insurance companies, you will end up buying a obamacare bronze/silver/gold plan.

Insurance is regional, even within CA, so you might as well go to coveredca to see what is available, and for how much, then go buy from the insurance company directly.
