Hello Freepers! I need help with research for a paper. Your ideas are needed and welcomed. I especially would appreciate comments from Libertarians and any lurking Liberals/Progressives and Atheists/"Brights".
1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgesseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.(KJV)
1Jn 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
The "law" is God's moral laws, God's laws of love, which traditionally (until recently) have their written expression as the ten commandments.
So sin is the violation of these laws. It can either be intentional or we can miss the mark unintentionally.
Greed doesn’t only involve money. It involves spirituality as well.
If you recall, I think it is in Act 2, where they state that if it were not for Divine Intervention in the end times, no one would survive.
The reason that the great unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is that it is the Holy Spirit that God sends to us to forgive our sins. To reject the Holy Spirit is to reject God and thus forgiveness is not possible. (This is why satan’s minions are afraid of the Light that shines from God as it is the Light of the Holy Spirit.)
In the turmoil of the end times (which I prefer to call the times of new beginning) the Holy Spirit will pour out upon all man who will accept it. That is why the things which Peter describe by quoting the Prophet Joel in Acts 2 will happen. We are right now in the Spring Time of soul growth and the Holy Spirit presence is stronger than ever, and getting stronger. It would not be “Heaven on Earth” if we did not have the increased presence of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:
“17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:
18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day.
21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
“Sin is anything that separates you from God”
“Nothing a person does can separate him from God.”
While your statement is very true from God’s perspective, it is not true from the human perspective. Our sin blocks us from experiencing God. This is the reason that Jesus forgave people in order to heal people’s souls and cure illness that was caused by sin.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 is discussing unbelievers who reject God, and reject the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior, people who will be dead in their sins as a result.
Jesus was baited by [religious] lawyers as to the "greatest commandment" with the intent that no matter what he answered that they would accuse him. Jesus' reply stunned them . He answered " to love God with all your heart.....and love your neighbor as yourself".
So anything that is not love is sin.
When we are truly “Born Again” the Light of God that shines through us as the Holy Spirit (Thus the phrase “Born of the Spirit”) radiates out of us and protects us from sin.
This is how Jesus healed by forgiving sins. It was the Spirit of His Father in the form of the Holy Spirit working through Him that removed the sins from people’s souls.
A spring flowing clean water outward will never allow dirty water to flow inward. This is why Jesus could be with the thieves and tax collectors and not be harmed by their sins..
Obama lies, encourages sin, and rewards immoral behavior.
Great question!
I’d say that “sin” is saying “no” to God. Any time I say “no” to God, whether in my heart, thoughts, or actions, I am “sinning.” I suppose I could extend this to “not saying ‘yes’ to God” as well when I know that I should ...
Seven Deadly Sinsin your paper — it's grossly misleading because every sin is deadly:
(James 1:14-16)
But one is tempted by ones own desire, being lured and enticed by it; then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death. Do not be deceived, my beloved.(Romans 3:23)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin is the transgression of the Law of God.
Asking for a Modern list seems to imply Laws of God have changed. Do I mis-understand; are you asking for something else?
The thing is, hell exists. And some people will spend eternity there, eternally separated from God ...
That's getting awful close to the mode of thought that Righteousness comes by the law (and imposing the mosaic law [e.g. circumcision] on everyone); it doesn't, because the Law only condemns.
(Romans 3:21)
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
I’ve come to believe that there’s a big difference between vice and sin. New Orleans gets it. The rest of the world... Well, vice — you know, vice, it’s human. It’s one drink too many. It’s an illegal smile in a coat pocket. It’s a bet on a wrong horse. It’s a wrong prick rubbing against a wrong piece of ass. Sin is those (dead) bodies over in Central City, the ones that we just keep rolling up on and doing so goddamn little about. — Discussed by Lt. Terry Colson, Season 3, Episode 7 of Treme.
Sin is, by definition, transgression of Torah. It is stunning that so many who would call themselves Christian don’t know that.
Pride is the first ingredient to all sin.
Proverbs 16
5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
When a believer hits rock bottom you can bet he has been up there at the top among the proud.
1Jn_3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
What law you say???
Here's a list of the sins so no one will wonder...
You don’t go down with a short hard fall.
You sort of shuffle along...
Until you loosen the load of the moral code,
Till you can’t tell right from wrong.
Sin is voting Democrat.
