Indian plane hits stray buffalo during take-off

An Indian airliner crashed into a stray buffalo during take-off from the western city of Surat although no passengers or crew were hurt, the plane's operator, SpiceJet Ltd, said on Friday.

The airline was forced to ground the Boeing 737 which suffered "substantial damages", it said.

There must have been worse. The Finns claimed 32 Soviet aircraft shot down for every Brewster lost. They had dozens of aces...one of the aircraft had over 40 kills...

Or maybe it was just because they were Finns. Consider Simo Häyhä, for example.

Back when the RCAF was flying the F-104 Starfighter out of Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada, a pilot was reminiscing. He said his biggest fear, shared by other pilots, was hitting a moose or being charges by a bull moose on the takeoff roll. When the plane was preparing to takeoff, the pilot would run up the GE J79 jet engine. As the engine spooled up due to power changes, movement of the variable stator vanes in the compressor section caused a sound. The sound was exactly like a cow (female) moose in heat. The pilots were afraid they'd attract an amorous bull moose who'd try to have his way with their jet!
