Daylight Saving Time is the greatest continuing fraud ever perpetuated on American people. And this weekend, the effect of this cruel monster will rear its ugly head again. On Sunday morning, Americans across the country will have to set their clocks back one hour, and next week, the sun will begin its ambling lurch to eventually setting at 4:30 in the afternoon.
Technically-speaking, this sleep cycle-wrecking practice of setting our clocks back is because we will be going back to Standard Time after our flirty summer with DST. And the unsettling shift back to these hours, and the hour "we gain," is the back-end of the time-bargain we have to pay for setting our clocks forward in March to "maximize daylight"a phrase probably better suited to organisms that rely on photosynthesisduring the spring and summer hours.

It is not just Liberals. There are plenty of Conservatives that see it as stupid and a net harm.
Also, compliance with DST and ST shifts cost hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Money that would be better spent on ANYTHING else.
It also causes me to have to get on stools, chairs and ladders to reach clocks. This sort of nonsense could lead to a dangerous fall and a broken hip. It is all fun and games until someone breaks a hip!
Only the stupidity of gov’t...much like the bucket and shallow/deep end analogy, only they could come up with a law that they could tout as ‘saving/costing’ an hour.
The Sun is not amused, and the cock still crows on his rise...not the gov’t time.
Greatest shame? Pffttt!
I now work with a global team and this “fall back” is causing me a lot of sleep loss! I used to be able to hold my meetings at 7 am and it would still be a reasonable hour for those that are 12 hours ahead of me...Now I have to either start them at 6 am, or they have to be on the call until 9 pm.....
Neither is a good option.
This is perhaps the best expression of the irrationality of DST. Not a big deal, but an inconvenience that has no good reason to continue.
More people have died because of Daylight Savings than died in WW1, WW2, Vietnam, and Korea combined ...
“greatest shame”? that’s really stupid.
DST is a stupid idea, but it’s the best attempt at a solution for something that has no solution.
You could move to a state or country that doesn’t have DST!
As long as you’re specific in what you hate....
DST stinks. BUT, since I became self employed it’s not so much an issue. I hate mornings. I hate them so much I sleep right through them. So DST just means I get over it an hour sooner. Or is it later...
For the first time ever I wished AZ did DST this weekend. That’s because I work on a SF convention that shifted from its normal weekend to the one just passed, the idea of scheduling 2 1AM panels really intrigued me. Of course I doubt anybody would have been awake for them, especially not the second 1AM panel (which would have to have been about deja vu), but it would have looked awesome on the schedule.
Utterly despise DST.
The hassle of changing clocks.
The loss of morning light.
The irritation of writing software to accommodate it.
The denial of astronomical realities.
The inconsistencies among jurisdictions.
The pain of adapting children’s sleep patterns.
It’s BS.
As President my first Executive Order would be to cancel DST.
Me too...I live in Arizona. But I loved DST when I lived in Alaska. Sunset at 11:45 pm was awesome.
My hubby was happy that the clock in his truck will be right until spring. ;)
I’m calling headline error - surely the author meant “sham”. In any case, I don’t think DST holds a candle to, say, Global Warming or Prohibition in terms of pure flim-flam. 0bamacare is gaining on them both.
Everywhere North of the California/Oregon border has “kids waiting in the dark for the school bus”, so that argument is wholly invalid.
As to the “farmers”, they were one of the biggest lobbies AGAINST the DST scam. To put it plainly, the grain does not care what time is on the clock! The cows don’t care what time is on the clock.
The only potential beneficiaries of the time change are a small cadre of urban dwellers, and now research is showing that any percieved benefit is marginal at best.
I have read numerous articles showing that auto accidents spike in the week following the spring switchover due to driver fatigue, and pedestrian accidents spike during the week following the autumn change due to the sudden change in light levels at a given hour.
Who knew? I would have thought that having an openly racist president was our biggest shame...
He obviously never heard of a guy named Obama.......
Indeed.
