Help Freepers! How can we effectively completely eliminate fleas from the house. We are getting rid of the cat immediately. A long time ago, one could buy Lindane, but I believe that has been banned. Would appreciate any advice on how to rid the house permanently of the little buggers. To save you words, I already know about he egg cycle thing from previous experience. Just can't find any Lindane.
why would you get rid of your cat?????? that’s ridiculous. use diatomaceous earth in the house and on the cat and the fleas will disappear.
I use diatomaceous earth to keep bugs out of my cabbage and broccoli.
About 5 or 6 years ago, our cats brought in a massive flea infestation. We tried for 2 months to get rid of the fleas, but it was almost impossible. Then we discovered flea traps.
A rectangular plastic plate about 10”x8” with an elevated cover wwith a small light bulb. The lower part has a sticky sheet of glue impregnated with flea pheromones. Put the trap in a room and turn on the trap’s small light (heat source). In an hour check the trap and there will be 50 or 60 of the biting pests stuck to it. A few days later and you’ll wonder where all the fleas came from and how they managed to find a place on the glue pad to stick themselves. The traps usually cost about $15 and replacement sheets of pheromone stick stuff are a couple bucks.

Put the cat outside on a leash....and open the door.
Lots of good advice so far - it isn’t the cat’s fault - multiple treatments even after it looks like the fleas are gone. Then be vigilant and inspect the cat often.
Fleas are attracted to the light and heat and will leap at it. The soap in the water makes them sink right away and they die.
The number of dead fleas will eventually drop to the point that no new dead guys will signal infestation is over.
Refresh water every day.
rubbing alcohol in 1$ squirt bottles. keep it with you at all times and shoot the little buggers when ever you see them. the cloud of alcohol vapor envelops them and makes them drunk and shrivel and die.
DIY with a shallow tray of water with a few drops of dish soap added and a small lamp suspended over the tray.Same principle they head for the lamp land in the soapy water and sink
Works great
Please don’t toss your kitty!
Just take them to the vet and get them treated. There are effective flea treatments.
Besides, with the cold weather coming, the fleas should die down. And make sure to ask the vet how to get ready for spring.
Flea control is an ongoing challenge but it can be realized.

I drink the earth grade DE. It has amazing health benefits.
Ha ha.
Sometimes my hot flashes feel just like that!
Vacuum your carpet and clean all floors, use a pesticide bomb that says it treats fleas, use a carpet treatment and spray your yard.
There are many products, they are usually several products in the pet sections and the yard spray (attach to hose and spray) is usually in the garden section but sometimes there is a lawn treatment in the pet section.
After a week, vacuum and clean your floors really good again and put down the floor treatment again.
There are really good treatments for pets that do work. One of my dogs takes Trifexis and she never has a single flea, my other dog can’t take the Trifexis because she’s allergic...allergic to many, many things... and so she sometimes did get fleas.
I have found treating the yard in the spring and also treating my floors about once a month in the warm months (even if there aren’t any fleas) keeps my pup flea-free.
Never ever allow registered Democrats in your home...dont let your children play with little Democrats.....
I did that 20 years ago and have yet to see the first flea in my house.
;-P
Diatomaceous Earth, cheap buy on Amazon.
Sprinkle around.
