When I read the headline I thought someone was protesting the use of hazmat suits.

Is that the procedure they used in Dallas? Sure does not look like the pictures of the suits worn at the Dallas hospital.

I’d prefer a hazmat suit, with respirator, over the face shield without mask.

Ok, how’s the doffing partner supposed to get out of their suit? By themselves without a parner?

(1) I watched the demo video. I believe he actually touched the outer layer of the hood with his bare skin.

(2) seems they could spray them down with a bleach / water solution first. It might could make the suits reusable for a couple of uses. I believe it would be safer for the user too.

Yup. That’s why you usually setup the bleach wash station, clean off the outside of the suit before removing. Of course then you have the challenge of where to put the station, you don’t want people wandering all over in those things. Life is much easier when you get to quarantine a whole building.

What are needed are those ‘step in’ suits, from... was it ‘Andromeda Strain’? Where the suit stays with the patient in their bubble, and the healthcare workers step in and out from the back. Anything less and the potential for contamination is always there.

Or how about this for an idea? STOP LETTING THIS DISEASE INTO OUR COUNTRY!!!

Also, not quarantining known exposed people is criminal. Assuming they are not contagious and then trying to backtrack once they start showing symptoms is stupid. This is what happens when a disease is handled by people who do everything with a political slant.

We are doomed, doomed I tell you. /drama (maybe)

O2

Even to my untrained eye, I would NOT want that guy to be my partner. He touched the future Ebola victim’s right arm when pulling down the sleeves. Those clorox wipes (?) sure don’t last that long in my house but then I do a more thourogh job. The FEV (future Ebola victim) stepped out of the trashcan and onto the contaminated floor. The partner then touched the trashcan when he removed the liner. The FEV walked across the contaminated floor and out the door. Who opened the door initially and with how many viruses on their gloved hand? They should be following Africa’s example of spraying down the PPE before attempting to take it off. But what do I know. I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn.

What they didn’t show was after all that the pt’s call light went on with these words:”I need to use the bathroom”.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
