FULL TITLE: Ohio televangelist forced members to have vasectomies and abortions, told women to treat pregnancies as tumors and allowed children to be sexually abused
Televangelist Ernest Angley has been accused of running an Ohio church where men are forced to get vasectomies and women abortions, and where children were sexually abused.
Self-proclaimed prophet Angley has been described by some of 21 former members as a closeted-homosexual Jim Jones who's turned a blind eye to sexual abuse.
But the 93-year-old has defended the allegations, saying he is simply an instrument of God.
He told the Akron Beacon Journal: 'I'm not a homosexual. God wouldn't use a homosexual like he uses me. He calls me his prophet, and indeed I am,'
Angley it is said to have played an active role in encouraging male followers to undergo vasectomies, and also monitored the results.

Just another TV preacher gone down the tubes. Same old same old.
At least Billy Graham had the good sense to keep his nose clean. The rest? Did not have the IQ God gave an ash tray.
I learned a long time ago, also, not to judge a book by its cover, but from Jesus, as reliably reported by an eyewitness, also said something about knowing a tree by its fruits, and elsewhere, "A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. From the Gospel according to John, Chapter 10.
Sort of limits growth and future expansion plans doesn’t it?
His TV show reached other parts of NE Ohio. Where he was then mercilessly & thankfully mocked, especially during the "faith healing" segments.
Really? Check Graham's endorsement of Bill & Hillary. I'm going with a "box of hair" IQ for him.
Actually there are a few Shakers still around. Very small numbers. Very few converts. But hey, what ever floats their boat. You won’t hear any complaints from me. Like you said, they did not use abortion or other medical ways to controls of fertility, just sleeping in different dorms. One thing that can’t be said of them is that they are Fifty Shades of What ever if you get my drift.
I knew he was a phony faith healer when I noticed he couldn’t regrow his hair or give himself a neck.
Talk about creepy . . .
I remember watching his show and laughing back in the early 80s. “Put your hand on your Television Screen, and receive the blessing”.
Damn, now my TV screen has handprints on it. Is that the blessing?
Sorry, his accent was funny, what he said was hilarious.
We got blitzed with both Angely and Rex Humbard before him down here in the Pittsburgh area. Both gave me the willies.
“Really? Check Graham’s endorsement of Bill & Hillary. I’m going with a “box of hair” IQ for him. “
I was speaking in terms of some sort of sex scandal. Not voting scandal. Then again do understand, I’m not a Billy Graham fan/follower.
Yes....we thought he was hilarious!
This guy has always been odd, but he didn’t “force” women to have abortions and men to have vasectomies. Anyone who did based on his interpretation of Christian teachings is just as nutty as he is.
Oh!
The “BAY-BEE” guy!!!
creepy!
“Anyone who did based on his interpretation of Christian teachings is just as nutty as he is.”
You know I believe the Bible does say something about false prophets. These people were looking right at one and just did not have the “discernment” to know this.
I remember seeing him in the 1970s on TV. To me, he became the stereotypical televangelist huckster, with the HEAVY Southern (??) accent. Jokers like him gave Christians, and especially Pentecostals, a very bad name, opening the doors to ridicule of Christianity.
Angley’s ‘ministries’ had a 10AM Sunday spot on a local Ottawa TV station. As my dad would leave at 10:15AM for church, I usually only saw the intro to the show. I still remember it because he was so full of hyperbole, or something! (Angley’s smarmy delivery began something like: “Aynd the Lowerd brought me to a seashore and sayed to mee that the number of the gray-ins of saynd, these shall be the number that you sayve.”)
Having just seen a portion of a current broadcast of his on youtube, it appears that he is somewhat frugal, continuing to use the same toupee!
Here is a little skit from “Bizarre” that skewers two faith healers of that era: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuQ4SJWECBY&list=PLzX9SuWGTFAsSP581bkVvRq7zWxw—loi
What kind of a idiot follows this guy and does what he says?
Another fake Christian who was following the money it sounds like
