From Press conference live right now:
The 2nd person who contracted ebola was wearing the full protective gear as recommended by the CDC!
Wow!
What is reality is that the dominant paradigm in the industry just got blown up and we are moving into a phase of real, serious crisis, which will be accelerated by the flooding of our borders with refugees from Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, most of whom are incubating disease (not sick yet), and who will therefore sail through the screening.
So obvious and yet nothing is done. What can we do? Republicans call for stopping the flights, all Americans want them stopped. Do we need to march? What?
Which is why I turned them off. Brokaw ended the segment by claiming that ISIS is a bigger threat to us now.
I have a Kimber to defend myself from potential ISIS threats.....the Kimber will not work so well against ebola.
But you can’t catch it riding on a bus!
Kids today are not taught much history. We were and lots of it. We were not allowed to forget bad things for fear that we would more easily repeat them.
In 1955 it had been:
37 years since WWII
37 years since the 1918 Flu
26 years since the start of the Great Depression
16 years since Pearl Harbor
10 years since dropping the first Atomic Bomb and the end of WWII
2 years since the truce in Korea
In 2014 it has been:
59 years since 1955
50 years since the Gulf of Tonkin incident and the start of Vietnam
46 years since the ML King riots that lasted most of the year
41 years since Nixon was impeached and left office
39 years since the Vietnam war ended with the capture of Saigon
23 years since the first Middle East War
13 years since 9/11
6 years since the beginning of the Second Dark Ages
I must have missed that.
Boehner did? McConnell did? Romney did? Shuster did (Transportation)? Upton (Health) did?
Either stupid reporter tricks or stupid CDC tricks. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. If there isn't another now, it's pretty much a guarantee there will be soon thanks to obola.
How can they even know it was the second visit that exposed this worker?
Duncan had to have the virus on his 1ST visit to the ER when no one had CDC level IV gear on and he was examined and released with a 103 fever and a handful of antibiotics.
OBOLA FAIL !!
Yikes, did you see him take a deep breath, look at the ceiling and bug out his eyes before stating he’s confident with the CDC protocol. Lie!
Let’s just say it did not inspire confidence.
At some point these news conferences will be reined in and handled at the White House.
When I see the head of the CDC all I can think is, “Liar, liar, pants on fire.”
I just ordered some N100 masks.....many sellers on Amazon are sold out so I cannot be the only one.
OK, just to liven things up your statement made me think of one of these guys!
It's about ta get real.
Duncan having, getting and dying for ebola didn't cause too much havoc. Nobody, probably, outside of the Liberian fringe community knew him and travelled in those circles.
This is an American nurse. Maybe with preschool kids. Maybe with a sister and brothers who live and work in upper class Dallas suburban neighborhoods. She likely has hairdressers, cleaning ladies, a favorite barrista at the coffee shop...
A few more cases like this--it's breakdown time.
I suspect there is something happening statistically allowing periodic exposure by air transmission,...not necessarily airborne.
Like the pig-monkey experiment in Canada a few years back where not all monkeys became infected concurrently, but half of them did acquire the transmission from the isolated piglets, and later the others acquired it, again without fomite or direct contact.
Maybe its a blossoming unencapsulated virions, only happening periodically, infecting some percentage.
When exposed to higher concentrations, such as a corpse of obvious contagious stages, then without PPE infection is near certain without antibodies. Meanwhile, not everybody gets it immediately if temporarily exposed.
They are supposed to go through Decontaminatiion prior to removal of PPE.
No it hasn't.
Every human being is different. 21 days is a very conservative estimate of a 95% confidence interval that you will develop symptoms if exposed, within two standard deviations. The measured standard deviation is 4.3 days. For "most" people (~70%) symptoms will develop between 8 and 12 days of infection.
If you stop isolating people after only 12 days, 30% of infected patients are going to be turned loose into general population. Some studies are now recommending 25 days.
What is your source for that?
25 days of isolation would be a good number to use to err on the side of caution.
that’s not what I meant..
they are saying that is takes 21 days for Ebola to show up..
that’s not true..
it can be within days..
I bet if those passengers were given a blood test it would show up no matter how much Motrin they take to hide a fever...
