It’s official, Apple confirms October 16th special event: ‘It’s been way too long’
MacDailyNews ^ | Wednesday, October 8, 2014 · 12:39 pm

Posted on 10/08/2014 6:52:36 PM PDT by Swordmaker

It’s official: Apple’s invitation to media outlets has confirmed they will be holding a special media event on Thursday, October 16, 2014.

No word, yet, on whether Apple will attempt a live streaming broadcast of the event. If so, hopefully, it’ll go better than their last attempt.

Rumors and speculation call for new iPads, including a svelte new A8-powered iPad Air with Touch ID, and new Macs, including the possibility of a new 27-inch iMac with Retina display and maybe even a new Mac mini.

Also expected is the public release of OS X Yosemite, so we all finally get some Continuity into our lives between our Macs and iPhones, iPad, and iPod touches.

And, as always, the possibility of “one more thing” looms.

MacDailyNews will offer live notes that day starting at 10am PDT/1pm EDT. Check our home page that day for the article link!

piece of crap iOS 8 that turned my iPad from a useful tool to a buggy piece of crap.

Restart your iPad after a cold shut down. If that doesn't solve the issue, back-up your iPad through iTunes, reset, then restore the iPad after reinstalling iOS 8.02.

That completely solved issues my dentist client was having on his. There have been a very few iPhones and iPads that required that procedure because something did not correctly overwrite in the initial install.

One other Freeper had a similar complaint and Freepmailed me last week. . . after the back-up, re-install, restore, everything worked great. His battery life was better than before, like mine.

I’ve been Beta-testing the Yosemite OS.

It’s really strange to have the phone ring along with the IPad...and the MacBook Pro.

Answering the phone on the computer is very convenient.

So far, the system is good, but my ACDSee hasn’t worked on it.

Show one thing I said that isn’t documented truth. One.

You've said NOTHING but innuendo. Pinning you down is like nailing jello to a wall. Prove ANYTHING you've said. Roadcat posted definitive lists of the top companies funding leftist causes AND APPLE IS NOT LISTED! Where is your proof they should be?

You simply swallow propaganda hook, line, and sinker and then believe it without being the least bit discriminating. Use the brain you must have in that skull.

I find most of my consumer dollars going to causes I don’t like at all; it’s part of the curse for living in California. The pierced, tatted freaks are everywhere.

My home is graced with a screaming, multi-monitor Windows 7 machine; my laptop is a MacBook Pro 15” that is perfect so far. It has never given me the problems that all my Windows laptops did; and I’ve owned several. When you buy a Mac, you buy the best machine and you pay for it. Meanwhile, from this seat, your remarks are silly and begging for attention. Have a good day.

Personally?
I would want it to be something that’s the shape of a pen in one’s pocket that is voice controlled. The user would say, “iPhone? Open an internet browser.” and it would display a screen in front of the user from a projector, and obey all commands said by him/her.

You are close to describing the functionality of the Apple Watch working with SIRI along with the iPhone in your pocket or purse. . . with the exception you'd look at the screen on your wrist now.

"What would you want the next iPhone to have?"

I'd be happy with a solid ship date.

Well sport, you and the crew just go right on believing all that. Seems awful funny though that rather than address anything I said, ALL of which are legit points made across FR daily on a variety of topics, you choose to put your desire for your products over all else.

This character suffers from a severe malady. My girlfriend and I have come up with a diagnostic code we are submitting to the ICD-10 for inclusion in the addenda. It fits people like Norm to a "T."

Kathy's and Swordmaker's ICD-10 FUD spreader's addendum:

90210 iOS Munchausen's Apple-Plexy Syndrome (MAPS), The overwhelming compulsion to post negative, judgmental, aggressive, and false commentary on any website thread related to Apple products wherever found, including phobic reaction to projected Apple user euphoria. First and subsequent encounters.

As you can see from Norm's postings on this thread, his is a classic case of MAPS. Sad.

It goes hand in hand with our other addendum which explains everything anyone needs to know about why Liberals are the way they are, and why the act the way they act, and make the idiotic decisions the make:

Kathy's and Swordmaker's 2nd addendum to the ICD-10:

321.0 SPLAT Liberal Cerebral Defenestration (LCD) or Liberal Acquired Brain Absence (LABA): the complete loss of rationality, cognition, and cerebration due to indiscriminately keeping one's mind so far open that the brain falls out. First and subsequent encounters.

We are beginning to fear that LCD or LABA is contagious, as good conservatives, after being exposed to large concentrations of LABA and LCD sufferers, begin to exhibit similar symptoms. . . and extended exposure seems to be incurable.

I imagine it will help fund lots of abortions,

Bill and Melinda Gates are major contributors to abortion in all its forms including euthanasia. Gates is also a driving force behind Common Core. All the High Tech firms are liberals and you know it, why does Apple offend you so much more than the other loonies?

Apple, which rarely comments publicly on anything, made an exception in this case, issuing a statement to AllThingsD’s Mike Isaac: “Apple strongly supports marriage equality and we consider it a civil rights issue. We applaud the Supreme Court for its decisions today.”

So? That does not translate into financial backing. . . or activity. Yes, recently some employees have marched in parades, but so have Googles', Microsofts' and others.

Apple may be investing in green energy and EPEAT product certification, but those actually positively impact the company's bottom line. People buy their products because they are 100% recycleable and all of their new facilities are energy independent and in fact SELL power onto the grid. Again, so what? Their entire environmental budget is less than $400 million. . . and returns far more than that in profits. I could care less. They are not the government funding Global Warming research and Apple is not forcing me to buy their products nor are they forcing me to pay for them as YOU think: I'm a willing buyer because I like their products. . . They take advantage where it makes economic sense.

The STEM IMMIGRATION is not the same as the open borders that Obama wants, in that Silicon Valley employers wanted freer access to educated, trained immigrants, not the dregs Obama is bringing in, so of course he's opposed to it.

Again, you are failing to discriminating in differences of policy. Just because it contains the word immigration, doesn't mean all immigration. Your example is a false example, in fact showing that like the previous one on Gay marriage, Apple was not alone. . . But merely a minor player in a host of "Silicon Valley" companies listed. . . Which is exactly what we are pointing out. You are being a hypocrite in your tunnel vision, targeting Apple as if Apple is evil, exaggerating Apple's role against all evidence. That, sir, is pathological. . . especially when you absolutely refuse to accept any evidence contrary to your closed mind view showing that Apple has been pretty much of a minor player, especially in the past.

Your proofs are very sparse and amorphous. . . and open to your confirmation bias. "Oh, look,' you crow with glee, "Apple is mentioned along with a lot of other companies in this article! That proves Apple is primarily evil!" Ignoring the others mentioned with greater involvement.

I just bet you researched every components manufacturer and its suppliers to assure yourself of the Snow White ethical purity before including them in your pristine computer. Oh, wait. You already admitted you use Windows. . . Sold by Microsoft. Some of your money is going to support gun control, abortions, forced sterilizations, pushing common core. . . Oh, my. Do you use an Android phone? Or a Windows phone? Tch tch. . . When did you last use Google search? Bing? I think you have a lot to answer for.

Same here. Before ios8, my IPAD worked flawlessly. Now it freezes daily. I guess APPL needed to up their sales by making older equipment obsolete.

Getting this thread back on topic, my hope is for a New Mac Mini that throws the Windows client PC platform into a mass grave and bulldozes the evidence.

MSFT Windows Server has its place on the backend and it’s SQL and .NET offerings are far too entrenched for enterprises to leave behind. What you don’t need is front end users running ‘Windows 8.2.2a (Skip 9) Windows 10’ in the workplace if they’re not developers in an age of web-based apps. Average corporate users don’t need a Windows life support system for Office anymore. You don’t even need MS Outlook to use Exchange Server. Why have a Windows PC necessarily if you’re not needing to run a Visual Studio environment? Hell, you can even Parallels/BootCamp that on a Mac just fine. Even PC gaming is falling prey to non MSFT technologies that don’t need Windows PCs... THAT is what’ll put the final nails in the PCs coffin long before Windows 10 comes along.

The Mac Mini was always intended to steal away PC users, so I hope that a new Mini will have top-end i7 power along with high end graphics and PCI Flash storage. Add Thunderbolt 2 for power users to connect PCIe enclosures and the PC users will convert once they see how it all works with their existing iPad and iPhones they’ve already got.

Price that Mac Mini loaded for war at $1100 less monitor and keyboard and anyone still looking at buying a giant sheet metal AT-style Dell PC running some surefire failure version of Windows will be regarded as a damnable fool.

Apple already trounced the top end PCs part for part in cost:performance factor with the high end MacPro, so now they should strike at Microsoft’s terrible weakness in the low and midrange PC market with a pimped out Mac Mini update that buries the consumer/prosumer PCI once and for all.

I know so many corporate users who don’t use or own one single Microsoft Windows solution to connect to the workplace until they trundle into work and sit down at their desk in front of some ancient heap of shit running Windows XP/Windows 7 or some low-end laptop originally designed for Vista that their corporate IT department might think about getting around to deploying Windows 7 onto while at the same time Microsoft is trying to get businesses interested in Windows 10. Just awful.

One good shove and everything at Microsoft could come crashing down except their server division and MSSQL. The time has never been more right.

Reply 95: There’s a whole list of topics upthread you ignored. you first. Then I’ll be glad to address yours.

Only fair.

Ok, I've been "fair" and posted below are every single one of your replies on this thread with your "topics up thread" and, you know what, Norm? There's not a single substantive thing you've said to address in a single BLEEPING one of them! Not a single thing.

As I said before, getting anything out of you is like nailing jello to a wall!

NORM LENHART's replies in this thread.

Reply 8: Don’t forget all the staunch rock ribbed conservatives already making plans to give more of their cash to fund a company that openly attacks -everything- they claim to believe in and redistributes that money to the DNC and other leftist causes.

You can identify them easily by how much the above simple truth ‘offends’ them.

Reply 13: Buy everything used. Starve the beast.

Reply 17: Yea and?

Reply 21: It makes all sorts of sense. Most of us don’t need any more power than a year old machine provides anyway. So why help fund our problems?

It’s just consumerism and ego. What do we want more? an end to Liberalism or new I toys?

Reply 26: And I previously reminded you that Apple is a major sponsor of liberal causes. If you want to promote that, you are what you are.

Reply 30: Unless that shopping spree is used, I imagine it will help fund lots of abortions, land closures and such.

Since contrary to what one guy here believes, thats the stuff Apple does with your money. Donates it tax writeoff included, to those groups.

Reply 33: Truth hurts huh? Still the truth.

Reply 36: My far left machine was bought in pieces from companies that don’t massively advertize their liberalism, some of it used, and parted together. Apple got none of it.

So again...Yea and?

Reply 38: Show any lie. Any.

Reply 42: Show one thing I said that isn’t documented truth. One.

Reply 44: You are exactly the guy Post 8 predicted.

Reply 45: You are correct. 4 ish years ago I bought Win7. Not one thing from them since.

I am a bad bad man.

Reply 48: It’s not sanctimony Saul. It’s the simple truth. People proud of sending their cash to a place like apple with a long record of attacking conservative ideals and funding Democrats really shouldn’t be bitching about liberals.

Again. If anyone has a problem with it, it’s on them. But it’s still the truth.

Reply 53: Toss in the non direct political spending, the gay propaganda tv commercials, the environmental BS, the Global warming/world citizen bucks as well and retotal.

If you want to knowingly support that, be my guest. Just don’t expect for people to believe you are a conservative for doing it.

Reply 54: What I prefer doesn’t matter of course but since you asked, I’d prefer people upheld the ideals they pat themselves on the back here claiming to have.

Or at least try.

Reply 56: So are you saying that we should all come here bitching about libs and then be proud of funding them? Where do you suppose they get the money to fund the things we are against? The tooth fairy?

You might want to consult that dictionary yourself. That word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Reply 59: Dude, buy whatever you like. Giving your money to Apple is what it is. No justifying BS changes what they do with it And it ain’t conservative. So don’t expect praise and a participation trophy for helping fund liberalism.

Reply 60: Civil is not funding people destroying everything we believe in to the best of our ability. Do you disagree?

Don’t bother replying. Neither of us will change our position.

Reply 63: Great. Supporting apple is a conservative thing to do now.

Since the core of your position wholly applies to the porn and abortion industries as well, lets buy their pros\ducts and services too for the reasons you stated. And support them because it’s conservative to do so.

Reply 67: Some people find all sorts of value in porn and abortion. Thats why they are multi billion dollar industries worldwide. Your surface level logic supports that. It is also the core principle of crony capitalism.

So I will leave you to your lovefest.

Reply 69: How exactly do you rationalize multi billion dollar industries with no ‘value’? How? In detail. Lets see it.

Obviously their is value to someone. It is there. it exists. It is traded and spent and saved and bought and sold.

Reply 71: it? you honestly don’t accept the near daily news articles about their donations, the TV commercials filled with social justice? The Eco campaigns? Need I go on? Are you one of 5 people on the planet that somehow missed them?

Just what DO you require for proof? WHAT?

Reply 72: The only thing with substance and I've already addressed it.

Reply 74: Translated: “Truth hurts and I got nothing to defend my position”.

Got it. Whose running away now? Tell you what. Lets just agree to disagree because you aren’t winning this and I’m not gonna change your mind.

Reply 76: You tried saying there was no ‘value’ in multi billion dollar industries and you claim I am daft?

Buddy, that is stupid on a whole new scale.

Reply 78: No, I am reading them fully. Your replies read like a liberal economics term paper.

Reply 88: Well sport, you and the crew just go right on believing all that. Seems awful funny though that rather than address anything I said, ALL of which are legit points made across FR daily on a variety of topics, you choose to put your desire for your products over all else.

Thanks, but this is still happening after the 8.02 install.

It's not about the 8.02 install, catfish, it's about resetting it and doing a FULL fresh install from scratch. When you did the original update from iOS 7 to iOS 8 something didn't get replaced properly and that something isn't updated in the iOS 8.02 update. You have to do a reset and re-install. My dentist client was having these problems and spent a half-hour on the phone with Apple support getting this fix. Trust me this works. Back-up your iPad using iTunes. Then, using itunes, reset the iPad. Restore the iOS 8.02 software, then restore YOUR stuff. This should fix everything. . . and bring back all your settings, etc.
