Recent Mars Images (Marvin the Martian throws down the kaboom in a guest zot)

Posted on 10/08/2014 10:49:46 AM PDT by aardwolf46

All over the internet recently, sciFy vs. reality and a Mars satellite for petty cash:

That breaks the monopoly. Faced with the spectre of other nations publishing uncensored Mars images, NASA and JPL have started publishing some much more obvious images than they have in the past including a totally uncensored video (JPL) showing large-scale structure.

A few items...

JPL uncensored video showing large-scale structure:

Electrical device of some sort with helical coil wound around it

Gear of some sort.

The HT was all out of $2.87 pink drink. I suspect the church bought it all and was selling it at $4 a cup. I had to get red drink (not that there’s anything wrong with that) unless I wanted to pay more.

Since nobody had naps, we can all have an early bedtime.

I’m home, now. My right leg was giving me fits (arthritis in my right ankle and knee) and I just had to come home. The clothes are still in the BB SUV, but that’s OK. I won’t need them today.

I got a pedometer from Fingerhut, and it is a pretty awesome piece of equipment. Tiny, but Bluetooth capable, so when I come in after walking, the info on it is uploaded and extrapolated and I know just how good I have been doing. It’s a feature that WW doesn’t give...what your walking means in real time.

Now I find I wear it all the time except when I’m in bed, of course. When I walk up the hill and back in the mornings (40 minutes) it shows the activity as an optimum, so I know immediately that the effort is doing SOMEthing!

My CD player doesn’t work well when I’m moving, so listening to music is scratchy. No, I don’t have an MP3 player as I can’t afford to download songs. I’m tired of thinking while I walk. I need the music to remind my brain that there is more to life than toil, toil, toil.

I’m glad you made it home! I just put the byos and Kathleen to bed, and I’ll be going myself very shortly.

Sorry about your leg! I’ve done two loads in my newly-repaired washer. *whew*

Oh. My. Gosh! I forgot all about your newly repaired washer, I have been so wrapped up in my own misery! My bad!

Since I’m still a little keyed up from the day, I will be here for a while. *sigh* Pink drink would have been good for a relaxer....

Maybe tomorrow, if I feel up to it, I will break down the one side of the bookcase and do it properly, and then Monday, I can begin with the BOOKS!!!

It will be nice to have a clean patio. I’m still trying to decide what to do with an old discarded electronic equipment crate (military) that I have packed around with me for 40 years. Right now, it holds papers, but I need to shred them and get the crate ready for something else.

If I used it in front of my sofa, I would have to strip it from the army green that it is and paint it a color that matches the rug, but that poses dilemmas of its own. How do I strip the paint off the metal that encloses it, and what could I put in it to utilize the storage bonus?

You can strip the paint off metal with a wire brush, either by hand on with a Dremel or other power tool ... but it seems like you could just put a new color of Rust-oleum over the previous color.

Bedtime has arrived here, as soon as I kick the byos back to bed. I hear thumping and thrashing overhead! Jake wants to go out, but he can wait until morning.

If the original paint were intact, I would just paint over it, but the paint is splotchy, at best. I have a Dreml tool, but it may be too small for the job. The crate is approximately 24” X 18” X 12”. The handles at each end are spring loaded. A spray paint remover would be best. This thing is plywood-lined, so unless it is crushed or incinerated, it will last a good long time into the future.

A proper cleaning should probably be done outdoors, where the stripped paint can be contained in a disposable plastic dropcloth.

After you have restored it, what you put in it will depend on what you want to take out of it, and what you want to do with what you take out of it. For instance, photographs or records.

Picture opening it and removing something and then ... what?

It is outdoors as we speak because I don’t have room for it in here and besides...it is Army Green...I have Federal Blue and Dusty Rose with black and cream accents.

Is there a paint remover that can be used on metal? I’m only familiar with the wood stripper. Because of the spring-loaded handles, I need something that can be used on the springs and the latches, as well. And of course, the paint I use to refinish it will depend on what’s available for a metal surface, and how much preparation is involved.

That which works on the wood will probably also work on the metal, perhaps even better. But read the label instructions when choosing the stripper.

I wish I had thought of that for that bachelor party ...

If you had read the instructions for the stripper, the cake would most likely have been non-existent. Is there a story in there, somewhere?

Oh, yes...to respond to your statement: That which works on the wood will probably also work on the metal, perhaps even better....

In all my refinishing projects, (approximately 15) I have come across the admonition repeatedly: "Do not use on metal."

Which explains my quandary about strippers on the metal surfaces. Or it should.

"Is there a story in there, somewhere?"

No. That kind of story appeals mostly to people who don't read for entertainment.

If you can refinish something, was it really never finished?

But it can’t be refinished till it was finished.

But doesn’t finished mean your done?

Not all the time, your could be done refinishing the finish but not finished the project.

Then how will know when your finished refinishing?

Like some chairs once your refinished the finish you still need to finish the upholstery.

Your a post to do what?

You I think its time to finish this chat.

So I guess that mean your be back to refinish it.
