Hiker discovers abandoned Tennessee town untouched and over 100 years old

One man made the discovery of a lifetime while out on a recent hike.

Jordan Liles, who currently lives in San Diego, California, was in Tennessee back in May 2013 when he decided to take some photos  during a trek through Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Those photos turned out to be incredibly interesting when the young man managed to stumble across a seemingly forgotten town in the woods.

Bogus.

From the comments:

Chip Woods, Gatlinburg, United States, 4 hours ago

This is no discovery. And you dont have to hike a mile up a un named road. You can drive up to each house. And it is paved. It was an old resort and hotel about 10 miles past Gatlinburg Tennessee. Ive lived here all my life and have known about this place over 30 years. Its not been abandoned 100 years the last time it was up and running was around late 1980's. What is the purpose of an article like this? People will never stop amazing me at what lengths they will go to prove they're idiots.

I call BS on this one.

“Untouched for 100 years”? lol

Looking at the images, did they have folding metal chairs and cable cars in 1914? I SERIOUSLY doubt it. That’s just what I noticed at first glance. I’m sure I’d see more things if I REALLY looked over them.

The person that wrote this is an idiot.

Hey, I thought we had a new rule about adding “satire” to headlines.

That doesn’t change my emotion, even if it would be misapplied to this situation.

I’m sure Domino’s would still deliver to you. Just tell them you have bugged out at Elkmont. Pay by credit card and have them leave the pie by the old still.

My post #28 this thread ..... It was a 1911 era country club that went tis up fiscally and physically ! Park service keeps it up as hiker bait .

Looks like a great place for a haunted house movie .....

I was once hunting deep into the Eglin AFB reservation. I was several miles back in the woods and began wondering if another human being had ever been in that particular spot.

It was that far back in the boonies. A few seconds after wondering that, I looked down and saw an empty cigarette pack on the ground.

//Incidentally, it’s hardly a discovery. It’s part of the park, and is an abandoned resort. It’s not untouched at all. The entire story is absurd.//

what you said; missed your post.

I was doing research in the GSNP back in 1977-80 for the University of Tennessee and the NPS on deer, bear, and other animal concentrations. I had to take a compass reading and head on that reading for the entire weekend. I did this one weekend a month for three years. I often stumbled upon houses that had just been left abandoned and in good shape. This story just confirms what I saw 35 years ago.

I saw this article earlier today, and laughed. I hiked near Elkmont many times in the 1980’s, and often saw the old Wonderland Hotel on my way to Campsite #20. If you look closely at one of the pictures, you can see an outdoor floodlight on the corner of the building ... I don’t think they had those 100 years ago. The place may have been built many years ago, but it was still in use when I last saw it (in fact, it was only abandoned in the 90’s). This article makes it sound like they discovered an ancient civilization or something.
