Daughter is traveling to Mexico City, and I am looking for some useful travel references...some first-hand Freeper info/advice, or books/websites that have a "step-by-step" account of what to expect when she arrives at the airport.
She has never traveled to a Mexico (or any other country forthat matter), and it has been a long time since I traveled to Mexico, so I am looking for the latest information to provide to her. Thank you for your help.
Why?
My advice: Don’t.
Don’t drink any water that hasn’t been bottled.
Don’t even use ice cubes, unless they are liberally soaked in alcohol.
Other than that, I’ve eaten just about everything in Mexico and never got sick.
She is leaving next week, and tho I have done some research, I have not found any website that has a step-by-step account of what she should expect when she gets to airport. This is not an optional trip, and none of my friends or myself have traveled there recently, so at a loss of best current advice. Thanks.

My Sister and BIL used to spend several months in Mexico every year. They quit maybe 5 years ago.
They said it was just too dangerous.
They had learned how to live in Mexico but finally gave up. For instance they said several times, they had Mexican police see them and try to wave them over. They always just waved back and kept going.
Are you serious?
She might as well go to Turkey.
DENY HER CONVINCE HER STOP HER
Not an optional trip? The hell does that mean? This is some kind of church thing isn’t it?
Her dear friend, who is from Mexico City, is getting married there as her family is from there. Tho they are providing some information/support, I had hoped FR friends would comew thru with more good advice or sources for good advice.
No offense, but I’d spend a month in Detroit before I ever spend a day in Mexico.
LOL, that was my first response, but circumstances are such that not going is not best option....:(
Do not take any cab unless they present their official license from the proper authorities.
Do not even brush your teeth with tap water.
Bring earplugs if you plan on retiring before 5:00AM as the street noise and partying will fill the hotel room even with the windows closed.
(my experiences in 1992.. a long time ago, but probably worse now)
The place is loaded with thieves but sometimes you are surprised by the kindness and honesty.
NEVER display valuables and NEVER set your purse down.
Thanks! Agreed, don’t drink water, tho I have never heard about soaking ice in alcohol tho...
keep a photo copy of her passport at home and when she gets there photocopy the page with her entry stamp date..if it gets lost or stolen much easier to replace.
stay in tourist or business areas, don’t be out late at night or isolated areas..
be cautious crime is rampant.
She should talk to hotel concierge. Or desk staff everyday and discuss itinerary
Oh boy. I’d really discourage her from going. She must really want to be at that wedding, but there’s no way in hades I’d go there. They are holding a US Marine in a prison too, add that to the list of reasons to not go.
Sorry I can’t offer any real travel advice other than “don’t do it.”
