Mathematics and physics are distinct. Nothing is ever "proven" in physics, hypotheses are confirmed to model the real world accurately, or not.

I think science progresses not from error to truth, but from partial truth to slightly more complete truth. Newton was not “wrong”, merely incomplete.

If someone asked me to “prove” Newtonian mechanics, I would demur that I do not claim that I can prove Newtonian mechanics, but rather I would assert that I find Newtonian mechanics is useful. Indeed, it is generally more useful than almost any competing theory.

Understood. My comment meant to express your "Truth is scientists don’t know what they don’t know" idea in a humorous form. Arrogance & emotion can lead to some great cat fights, whether between excited females or dueling cosmological theories. (or political pundits)
