It's a video and a very cool video IF you are a certain age. And I am. ; )
Double delightful!
*We’ve seen a lot of changes since 1955 .....*
When I was 16 I lived in Orange County California close to Disneyland. We used to go every weekend! Admission was $2.50 if you didn’t buy a ticket booklet. You could buy individual ride tickets at kiosks inside the park (”E” tickets were 85 cents!). Today it costs $95 dollars to get in!
Children’s price for the ALLEN THEATER in Farmington NM back in 1954-1956 was 20 cents.
I do remember that postcards were a penny. What a time in the world!
Never did order those X-ray glasses.....always regretted that....lol
I always regretted not ordering one of
those Lugers for $25 that was offered
in mags in the 60`s.
One of those x-ray glasses too.
I'm thankful for growing up in the Fifties.
We played outside until dark, then we caught lightning bugs to put in a jar.
I lived in a small town and that made it even better.
I was 7 Y/O when I got my first dog...a bulldog terrier puppy... with worms! I put it in my bicycle basket and rode to the vet. He was in the first Vet Medicine class at A&M...I learned as an adult. I thought he was just a nice man I took my sick dog to.
I don't know if he sent my dad a bill or what. I didn't know he did it for $$. He just gave me medicine and told me how to doctor my puppy.
Over the years he doctored several of my dogs. I learned to pay.
I still do....don't put them in a jar anymore..
I have a smoking habit so I go outside and sit on the porch in the dark. The bugs see the glow of the cig, and fly toward it.....In fact, I just came inside after seeing several of them tonight..
As I get older I find myself increasingly getting enjoyment out of the things I did as a boy. I will even catch a frog or two, just for the hell of it..
For me at least, not much has changed, except I will share the experiences with my grandkids, a great grandkid coming in a couple months..
So I was told! lol..
I never could get up the money to order the things...so it was one of the things I wanted to have..
I spent most of my (bottle) money and allowance on marbles and A&W rootbeer.
Money well spent! :)
AH — memories! This is great! Thanks for sharing!!
That’s true for the most part. Times change. Memories are always perfect or close to perfect.
As for me, I couldn’t imagine being a teen or young adult today, without any privacy. Internet, facebook, etc. and cell phones have really changed things, imo. No privacy, imo.
We weren’t isolated, though. Just way less government nanny-statism for one.
My oldest brother has those memories too. I can visualize them from his descriptions.
I Believe was a song we sang in grade school and it was a “hippie” song lol. It’s one of the songs I recall so clearly from my childhood.
