New Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Cat Stevens is taking the "Peace Train" back on the road. He announced yesterday that he'll do a six-city concert tour in North America this December, his first series of shows in the US since 1976. His conversion to Islam followed, putting his music career on hold for a quarter-century. Stevens, who also is releasing a blues album on Oct. 27 produced by Rick Rubin and titled Tell 'Em I'm Gone, is using that stage name along with Yusuf, the name he took when he converted. The performer of 1970s-era hits "Wild World," ''Morning Has Broken," and "Peace Train" has slowly broken back into secular music during the past decade and has made only a handful of semi-public and television appearances in the US.

"Morning Has Broken" was not by Yusef, only an arrangement. The words are by Eleanor Farjeon 1881-1965 who was Christian, and wrote the words in 1931. And the melody was a Hymn Tune, "Bunessan" written by Mary McDonald 1789-1872, who was Scottish. Interesting that one of the most popular recordings by Yusef would be by 'two harlot apostates'.
I liked the song and felt bad that the performer turned so evil. But in my research, there are other non-Yusef recording not using his arrangement.

Singing and music, especially western or secular style is forbidden in islam. He stopped his music career after converting. Why is he coming back?!

Bottom line, “Morning Has Broken” is a Scottish Presbyterian Hymn, performed by Yusef before he joined the Dark Side.

Memory is not so good, I thought he either lost or renounced his citzenship.
With result that he lost ability to travel to US.

Dispensation form the ghost of Big Mo... As long as he gives 90% of the proceeds to an ISIS mosque.

Morning Has Broken
Eleanor Farjeon, UK, 1881-1965
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world
If you look at the lyrics this could also be sung by someone Jewish

I hope they pat him down and search him, before allowing him into concert halls.

He actually wrote the First Cut is the Deepest. Yep, when "Oh, Very Young."
It's a matter of taste of course, but the guy made some good songs IMHO.
Problem for him now is that his music sucks.
Even if it was good, I'd not buy if he didnt repent. But, bottom line, he sucks now. So he's a non-factor.

I liked Cat Stevens' music a lot back in the day. Even learned to play some of his stuff, and performed it.
I stopped listening to him and playing his stuff when he converted to Islam and took a Muslim name.
I'll consider starting up listening again only after he drops the name and the religion, publicly.
Until then he is dead to me. What a putz.
