A release from the Wyoming wildlife agency said Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan "indicated the pathologist’s preliminary report stated the individual suffered blunt force trauma from a probable bear bite."
Evidence collected at the site is being analyzed to try to determine if the bear that attacked Stewart was a grizzly or a black bear.

I remember Ronald Reagan was at his ranch and a headline read:
“Reagan slaps intruder”.
Reagan was cutting brush and simply slapped a mosquito that had bitten him on the neck.
That show has evolved into a pretty good story.
God gave bears large muscles, teeth and claws. God gave man a large brain so he could develop and use firearms.
When I was young, I worked for the Forest Service. One of my co-workers carried a revolver. I asked another co-worker if the guy with the revolver thought he was Billy The Kid.
“Leave him alone. He was on a four man trail crew that got between a Grizzly Sow and her cub. When it was all over, he was the only one of the four that could move.”
I never said another word about that guy.

Still... it is tragic that a man lost his life to a bear. Be prepared... always. Most suggest not pepper spray or bells, but a firearm... preferably one with a caliber that starts with a “4”
