I'm a dyed in the wool ditto-head and have been so for many years. To be honest, I'm finding you less and less "listenable." You seem to be losing your edge. While I download your podcasts, I more and more frequently find myself fast-forwarding past the lengthy spiels on the latest I-phones, sports happenings, and your winning your umpteenth Marconi Award, that is, when I bother to listen at all. Listening to your broadcast used to be the highpoint of everyday. I never thought I'd say this but I no longer count it a great lose if I go for days without listening. I'm heartsick to say it. Please don't think this is a plant or that I'm a seminar caller. Check it and you'd see that I've subscribed since the beginning. I may not do so any longer. Maybe it can be summed up like this: I used to find hope by listening to you but it seems like even you have lost hope. I could say more but won't, except for this: I'm a rock-ribbed, hard core, conservative listener and have been for years. If you've lost me, you've probably lost several thousands. For what it's worth......
This is true. The difference for me is that the country is in such a dire situation that all that fluff is just drivel now.
I still try to listen once in a while but am always disappointed.
Rush, wistful like Jesus at Gethsemane.
Now I’ve heard it all.
Ouch! That hadda hurt!
For years now I only listen to Rush while driving, and then only if I am alone. BUT, I always listen to him, under those circumstances.
I think we’re all looking for Aragorn.
I concur, and this is not the wrong site to criticize Rush or anyone else; as some suggest, it is our job as conservatives to hold (others who call themselves conservative, put themselves to the front and profit from doing so) feet to the fire.
Rush set the bar very high by his own admission, he should be told when he is falling below it, you did so quite well; and I might also add graciously.
I would say that Rush rarely says anything lately that has not already been said just as good and often better, here on FR, I often think when listening to him; he must be an avid reader of FR, and it is those subjects already discussed here; often days before he chooses to discuss them, that keeps him from being totally boring.
I still listen to Rush regularly and have been frustrated by all those things you pointed out and a bit more, if he were to read your criticism, he would just brush it off, thinking he is so far beyond it, he was at some point in the past genuinely humble, but not anymore; any gesture towards the same has become an obvious facade.
"Umpteen" is a number that lies between 0 and infinity........hope that helps....:)
Yes. I know what you mean. Things hit a new low and I don’t think they can go much lower and yet...they always do. It is depressing. Even Rush said that he’s always expected the pendulum swing the opposite direction at some point and yet it never does. And he’s claimed to be the most optimistic person alive (about the future of the country). But I haven’t heard that for a long time, have you? Maybe realism has hit us square between the eyes. God only knows how badly I hope I’m wrong. There are untold millions like me out there waiting for someone to step forward to mobilize us but chirp...chirp....chirp....chirp. It doesn’t happen. Surely not from the pubbies. Maybe Ted Cruz? He comes the closest that I’ve seen.
Bingo. I listen every day when I can. I download the podcasts. Sometimes they are so good that I put them on CD and share them. I go back and listen to some of them like the segment on American exceptional-ism last November. The dude is a genius and is helping to blow up the great liberal media industrial complex.
I listen once in a while but he lost me during the 2008 elections. Steve Deace’s worldview is precisely aligned and he is far more incisive to foe and alledged friend alike. Rush hobbnobs with the self-indulgent rich pukes who think opposition to abortion has lost all our elections.
I sincerely thank you for your gracious words...I really mean that...no sarc intended. And I’d be the most surprised person alive if Rush listened to my words (or responded). I don’t expect it but as I follow this thread, he probably should because it seems that many freepers hold similar opinions. Freepers are definitely not fools. They are the best informed group I know and anyone would be wise to listen to them.
In Rush’s defense, maybe he’s like the rest of us out here - I just can’t take a steady diet of the negativism going on in this country. It seems so futile, so hopeless, yet, we must not lose hope. He is human, and needs a break from the regime shenanigans, as much as I do. Then after a short reprieve, I go back and pick it up again. And, for the poster who can’t take Mark Levin’s shouting, or screaming - I personally love it! He holds nothing back and says what others are afraid to say. Rush could retire today or tomorrow, and never miss a beat - he is set financially for eternity, and we need him more than he needs us. The man has had a target on his back for many years, and deserves to be happy in his marriage, golf, football, and yes, even his love for his cats. Too many on here want everything their own way - life doesn’t work like that.
May it ever be so...may it ever be so!!!!!!
DH started my habit of listening to Rush every afternoon when The slick Willie was caught soiling dresses. During that time I became addicted. When on vacation and he had the emergency treatment on what was thought to be heart condition, it was realized just how much he is needed. What would we do if there was no Rush? Like others, it is believed when he married Cathryn (sp) he lost that ‘spark’ Every person deserves to be happy with their mate/partner, but in Rush’s case, he needs that sharp wit and fight in his spirit. His happiness in life is not begrudged him, but that happiness has certainly changed his radio persona -and not in a good way. That others have said his show is still heard, though when missed the world is still spinning. It’s always enjoyable to hear his comments on the current events and by gum, at times he seems to be taking your words off the page on which you typed them. Should he be gone, there would be a black void with no one of substance to fill it.
My interest in RL has waned over the years and I go back to when the first hour was preempted with local news or so and repeated at 3PM ... or something like that.
I have figured the rest of the “Johnny Come Latelys” are Rush Wannabees, never did like Hannaty (followed Rush locally) and O’Reilly was never my ‘cup of tea’.
I do ‘like’ Chris Plante but just don’t go out of my way to listen to any of them anymore.
I was talking to a HS friend the other day and he said “You are interrupting Rush Limbaugh and I jokingly replied “Oh, that blowhard”... it took 5 minutes to ‘calm him down’ and I finally got in that I was only joking, I just didn’t go out of my way to tune him in anymore.
I think my interest really started to wane during his ‘oxy’ days, not so much the addiction but I do remember the ‘wasted air space’ chastising such as Strawberry and Steve Howe over their drug usage while he was ‘hooked’.
Of course I realize if ‘you and I’ have the same faults, yours are worse than mine because mine are justified and yours are a crutch... or something like that...
(I say that after ‘surviving’ 35 years as a hard working, never miss a day(working or drinking), functioning drunk) BUT when I realized I had enough, I was just hard headed enough to ‘put it down’ and never turn back).
Sounds like a title for a book.
When Rush gets sidetracked on something you don’t like, turn him off. Just don’t try to rationalize your now anti-Rush by trying to enlist the rest of us.
Rush would say you sound like a seminar caller with the “I’ve been a Dittohead from day one” qualifier promotion. Sounds a bit like that here too.
:: If I want to hear some old guy rambling about meaningless junk, I’ll listen to myself. ::
Maybe we can convince Crip to get an internet radio outlet?
:-)
We've never been on a "pendulum" (how depressing). No, we're on the Fabian ratchet and we're heading to perdition (much worse).
Someone here told me that his Apple-talk are really ads, but Apple could never disclose that. I tend to agree...especially if you listen carefully.
Heard the same Marconi stuff from last week...had to skip through it too. Spend 5 minutes on something like that, I can handle it, spend 30 minutes - simply TOO MUCH, especially at the beginning, when we want to hear about THE ISSUES. Maybe hold that stuff back for the 3rd hour...
