Scientists say an extreme solar flare is blasting its way to Earth and could mess up some power grids, satellites and radio transmissions.
Forecasters at the Space Weather Prediction Center don't yet know when Wednesday's solar storm will arrive here and which part of the planet will be facing the sun and bear the brunt of the effects. It could be as early as Thursday morning to a few days.

Might have already hit, according to this article. My electric is still up at this time.

It was 93 degrees last night...all night. My lights flickered and a dog barked. Might have been the earthquake in Irving last night though.

How long does it take?
Its 92,960,000 miles from sun to earth. Sunlight takes an average of 8 minutes and 20 seconds so clearly we have "seen" the photons of this event. Its the charged particles that must be slowpokes.
Ok i looked it up - 1.3 million mph - so about 3 days.
I got my umbrella open and ready.

So...should I pay my rent this week or no? Don't waste your money in long term investments like green bananas.

Ok i looked it up - 1.3 million mph - so about 3 days. That's old technology.
About one or two weeks ago, a Nork astronaut made the trip - each way just a few hours. Good thing he went then and not today... might have run into some difficulty navigating thru this 'Extreme' Solar Storm.

You see?! This is what we get for putting so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If everyone would stop breathing, we wouldn’t need to worry about any solar storm. [/sarc]
