I firmly believe the left firmly believes they can control man with enough laws if only they can install the correct institutions and man will live a trouble free life.

Do you think government controlled central planning for prosperity, healthcare, and the economy is possible?

Um if you hate the founder’s vision, you hate America.

The question is quite simply one of “What IS America?”

Answer that one first, and then we can move along to discussing whether the Left hates it.

They hate America because it is a major obstacle to their socialist plans to take over the world.

The left hates America because it is the shining and ultimate counterexample to every one of their pieces of dogma. I don’t think it’s any more complicated than that.

The left thinks the United States is fundamentally flawed and that the Constitution is an antiquated barrier to the Utopian “changes” they would like to implement.

Funny because I read an article earlier today on how the British left hate the UK.
The self-loathing of the British Left is now a problem for us all

I believe the Left (especially the American Left) does hate America, not just the form of government the Founding Fathers left us.

Outside the US the Left is fanatically nationalist and patriotic. In fact, at one time during the Cold War Communist propaganda referred to the Communist side in any conflict as the "patriotic" side. And can you imagine any classroom in North Korea brainwashing their citizens into believing that their "lousy" country shouldn't even exist in the first place?

Communism seems to make other countries militarily strong and assertive (USSR, China, Cuba, etc.). No one messed with any of those countries under Communism. I honestly believe a Communist USA would be such a self-hating entity, it would intentionally attempt to destroy itself.

The Western Left outside the USA is pacifistic, but still nationalist and patriotic (eg Scottish National Party). A Communist USA would be not only unarmed, but self-hating.

Not to get anyone mad at me, but though the American Revolution was not a social revolution, it gave inspiration to other revolutions that were--such as the French Revolution. One could make the point that without the American Revolution (or a failed American Revolution) the Left as we know it today would never have come into existence in the first place. This makes the Left's monomaniacal and almost genetic hatred of America especially irrational.

I don’t think the Left hates America. I think the left hates our founder’s vision of America as established in our founding documents.

Isn't that like saying you love mankind but hate people?

"I think the left hates our founder’s vision of America as established in our founding documents."

I respectfully disagree that the left hates the Founder's vision of America as enumerated in the Constitution. This is for the simple reason that the feds have, to varying degrees, never worked within the restraints of their constitutionally limited powers anyway.

Another way to look at problems with federal compliance, really the lack thereof, with the Constitution is the following. Crooks long ago figured out that it is better to steal from the rich by first getting elected to federal office and then making constitutionally indefensible appropriations laws to rob the rich, as opposed to robbing banks for a living. Perhaps it is the associated counter-bribing of elected officials by the rich to include tax loopholes for the rich that the left understandably doesn't like.

But also note that my reference to "constitutionally indefensible appropriations laws" above is based on Justice John Marshall's clarification of Congress's limited power to lay taxes, Congress limited to laying taxes mainly to perform its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited power duties.

“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

The bottom line is that the rich counter-bribe federal lawmakers for tax breaks proably because the rich don't understand Congress's limited power to lay taxes, corrupt lawmakers laughing all the way to the bank to deposit their bribes from the constitutionally ignorant rich.

The left hates America to the extent that America resists socialism.

The American left is in a uniquely awkward spot in that America’s founding is pretty explicitly hostile to leftist ideas. That’s not the case for a French leftist or a Greek leftist or a Rhodesian leftist or a Mexican leftist or any other kind of leftist.

American leftists are uniquely at odds with their nation’s core ideas.

All we did by ‘winning’ the Civil War was incorporate the left into the fabric of the country (southern democrats & all).

I wrote earlier that Conservatives lack a real leader; I reiterate it and until that changes, we are the Romans and will likely repeat history.

150 million+ strong and collectively capable of absolutely nothing under our current form of government with current ‘leadership’. Is that pathetic, or what? (the Founders are hanging their heads in shame)

Truthfully, I think the left is so utterly filled with hate that it no longer has a focus. They are so filled with hate that all they care about is hurting others, with the idea that somehow it will take their own pain away.

Importantly, look at where they direct their hate, to see this underlying anger: religion, patriotism, motherhood, family, prosperity, plenty, education, and many of them hate life itself. All that is good and brings for happiness is what they hate the most.

Where do you get people like Eric Pianka, who wants to exterminate 9 out of every 10 people on Earth with Ebola? There is no reason or logic there, just blind hatred.

Where do you get people who embrace radical Islamists as friends, yet despise entire nations of people who have been profound friends with America for 50 years?

The bile filled, ulcerous hatred of others makes their lives a burden and a misery. They find glee in making others suffer, to be callous and cruel, even murderous, to the innocent and helpless; to despoil the virtuous and cast down the hero.

When Obama was just a candidate, on another forum someone made the usual farcical suggestion that he might be the antichrist. But for once, one of his staunch supporter said that he *wished he was* the antichrist.

Whatever for. Most others were puzzled.

“Because then he would be powerful and give us what we want and destroy our enemies” was his reply.

This is again the logic and reason of the left, so wrapped up in hate, and in this case, greed, that they are willing to embrace the ultimate evil if it offers a chance to give them what they want.

I think that when we refer to the "left" here in the USA, what we are basically referring to is the dominant thought of the world.

The way I see it is that America's cultural values were founded, basically by puritans in the 17th century. Their influence shaped this country, and is still felt today in many areas (blue laws, dry counties etc..) . But puritans were a minority of European society. A fringe group, basically. The majority of people were not puritanical in England, Europe, and certainly not the rest of the word.

Once large scale immigration began, in the 19th century, and population growth exploded, it was over. The beginning of the end. A minority belief system cannot keep hold on a nation this big with an ever expanding population heavily influenced by other cultures.

The left will win because every other philosophy in the world is pretty much our "left" . What other nations refer to as the 'left" is the left. What other nations refer to as the "right" is left to us.

We were never going to hold on forever to the America that was originally founded.
