While rock 'n' roll is necessarily classified as a form of pop music, it is actually an idiom whose radical, destructive primitivism established a new type of socio-cultural disorder. It's about rejection of the status quo and celebration of the dis-imprisonment it instills.
Always exploited for profit, rock's unmanageable aspects have been steadily diluted by a sinister, commercially driven course of revisionist myth-making. There is no acceptable role in the marketplace for radicals like Charlie Feathers, Poly Styrene, Lux Interior or Roky Erickson, but there's always room for the homogeneous, money-hungry, play-it-safe phonies on this list.
These douchebags all have one thing in common -- they screwed up rock 'n' roll, big time.

Hey speaking of ‘Deadheads’ there’s a local radio show on Friday nights in DFW that plays their music.

A conservative here who enjoys their music. LIEberals got us pegged all wrong. (’
“...click bait...”
U speak the truth. ;)
I was thinking the same thing. Some drippy vagina of a tabulator got his feelings hurt when the peerless FZ revealed the many incompetents in the industry for what they were. Waaaaaa!
Agreed. Did he not once take out an insurance policy against making his groupies pregnant?
Sorry but that never happened.........
Dunno, but I do know he once knocked himself out performing kung foo moves on his mic stand.
Saw a picture of him here on FR, the guy has not aged well.
As are most CEO’s and other successful people.
You want to get ahead, you have to step on a few people along the way.
Serious question - can anyone name someone who “made it” in what ever field who wasn’t a bit of an a**hole?
Neil Young and Gregg Allman are two of my favorite musicians. But they both can be classified unfavorably for various reasons. Likewise, 8 of the 10 listed are among my favorite musicians.
F yeah.
One thing about Neil young he writes lyrics that rhyme.
Jerry Garcia is an overrated guitar player, but probably not a douche.
Carlos Santana is probably a douche, but not an overrated guitar player.
Fogerty is a great pop songwriter and probably a douche.
Dylan never did anything for me, and he may be a douche, but he stymies the lefty music press so I can’t help but like him.
Springsteen is overrated and a douche.
Don’t know much about David Crosby. Irrelevant in my book.
Zappa. Had friends who were into him. Clever guy. Mostly irrelevant.
Lou Reed. Apparently an icon or something. Has a great cameo on the third Gorillaz album. Don’t know if he’s a douche.
John Lennon. A douche but indispensable.
Love Phil Specter’s wall of sound but the guy is a douche.
His first couple of albums are brilliant. Everything after is dreck.
The hardest part of making such a list is narrowing it down to just ten.
As a lifelong, working musician and singer I think I’m qualified to say that Springsteen is no musician or singer.
Just my opinion, it’s not worth anyone getting upset over.
If he means over rated than the only ones I can with on this list are Springsteen, Lou Reed, David Crosby and Frank Zappa. I won't even consider Phil Spector as he was not a musician or part of the classic rock scene.
I never got the Frank Zappa-is-a-musical-genius thing. My room mate in college was huge Zappa fan so I heard damn near everything he did through 1982. Ugh... to say the least. He even drug me to one of his concerts. It was the only concert I ever walked out of.
When you can “play that guitar like ringing a bell”, people will forgive a lot.
(early Chuck Berry, Johnny B. Goode. audience is zombified, no reaction to dam’ fine Berry)
