While rock 'n' roll is necessarily classified as a form of pop music, it is actually an idiom whose radical, destructive primitivism established a new type of socio-cultural disorder. It's about rejection of the status quo and celebration of the dis-imprisonment it instills.
Always exploited for profit, rock's unmanageable aspects have been steadily diluted by a sinister, commercially driven course of revisionist myth-making. There is no acceptable role in the marketplace for radicals like Charlie Feathers, Poly Styrene, Lux Interior or Roky Erickson, but there's always room for the homogeneous, money-hungry, play-it-safe phonies on this list.
These douchebags all have one thing in common -- they screwed up rock 'n' roll, big time.

pretty good all-overrated list....
Outstanding article.
What about Neil Young and Greg Allman ( Mr Cher).
The author accidentally describes himself in the Frank Zappa write-up “a self-appointed authority figure who did nothing but ceaselessly bitch, piss and moan without ever offering a single solution or so much as an attempt at constructive criticism”
Jerry Garcia a douchebag?
Dude, those are fightin words.
Scroll to the bottom and read the comments. :)
The whole article was made with the mention of how John Lennon dumped a beer on Chris “Let’s Dance” Montez, a former Golden Gloves boxer, who proceeded to whup Lennon’s woman beating ass up one side and down the other.
I made me feel very good to “imagine” that.
What a raving nut.
article is nothing but click bait, and click bait that’s WAY past its expiration date at that.
The author of the article must be one jealous prick-—he should check his mirror for the #1 douche. All 10 on that list had some considerable talents, like them or not and their flaws included which were plenty.
Unless Mother Theresa made an album, you could put every performer on that list at some point in their career. And most of the people on that list did have some point in their career where they did not belong on the list.
I guess it means that it is hard to have money and success and not get your head completely screwed up at some point in your life.
I read them. Author didn’t make it out alive...
No one is perfect, rock stars even less so.
I have no problem with this guy’s list.
This guy thinks just because he is crude and adolescent in his language that he has something interesting or intelligent to say.
Jerry Garcia had a drug problem. Bob Dylan was a phony and a plagiarist. John Lennon treated his son Julian really terribly. Gee, nobody knew that.
Most successful rock types are bad people. They are almost all drugged up, selfish and self destructive.
Most rock fans listen to and like what they are told to like.
There are some with talent. Actually a few on his list were.
But this idiot wouldn't know the difference.
Yeh Neil Young is a liberal piss off however he does have some good songs along the way.
Chris Montez beat up John Lennon, that still has me snickering.
I never did “get” the grateful dead and Garcia’s guitar playing, but I never was a stoner either. I think you had to be stoned to like the Dead. The only one on that list I still listen to is Fogerty in his CCR days.
