Cool it! While Hollywood has accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in droves, uploading often-creative, LOL videos and nominating each other, Pamela Anderson and Carey Hart took to their social media pages to criticize the viral campaign, meant to raise funds for Lou Gehrig's disease research.
On Wednesday Aug. 20, Anderson, a longtime supporter of animal rights, posted a Facebook message criticizing ALS researchers for their research practices...
The next morning, on Thursday, Aug. 21, Hart similarly railed against those who have hopped on the ice bucket bandwagon...

Pammy Anderson - what a boob.
27.6% of donations go to cover admin. I am not sure how this compares to other charities.
I know nothing about ALS research methods, but I’m on board with the point that an “Ice Bucket Challenge” is pretty frigging stupid.
True, but the campaign needs to be criticized. It is one of worse run charity in the United States. Giving less than 20% of the money collected to charity. The Director makes over $300,000 not counting perks. The lowest person’s listed salary is $108,000 (secretary). Other expenses exceed the amount they give to ALS clinics two fold.
I can’t imagine how they are going to spend this new influx of money. It certainly will not be on charity.
Many NFPs are scams to enrich a cabal of executives. End corporate taxation.
Other expenses I think is over 30%.
I did it. Worthy cause, even if silly gimmick. Lost a friend to this thing. ALS is the worst thing you can hear from a doctor. Incurable disease that tortures horribly, disables, degrades, and lowers you, leaving you fully aware of what is happening for years. Merciless, unstoppable, and incurable. I would rather have the worst cancer than ALS. I oppose euthanasia and suicide because of my faith, but if I heard that diagnoses from a doctor, I would have to give my guns to a friend because I would not trust myself with them.
I might be wrong... I listened to someone instead of research. So, if wrong sorry.
Was not wrong about the director...

Everything you said, I am in complete agreement. I, too lost a friend to ALS.
Dude, if you're going to do it, do it with a full bucket.
Symbolism over substance.
I made a crude joke. You make a good point.
That’s incredibly low.
The real tell is what percentage of gross revenue actually gets paid out to beneficiaries. It usually runs from 3-7% of the gross take.
Foundations are great money makers. Ask Michael Moore and Hillary Clinton.
Some enviro was on facebook yesterday ranting about the wasting of millions of gallons of water!
It was a scream.
Catholic Charities is somewhere around 4% admin.IFIRC.
I also lost a friend to ALS in 2012, and a cousin (though I didn’t really know him) in 2009. You are absolutely right in your depiction of the disease.
Seen a graphic on facebook supporting the “Plastic Bag Challenge to Cure Stupidity” - you can probably imagine, it was a simple challenge: stick a plastic bag over your head and keep it there...I was thinking it would be a GREAT gimmick for raising awareness and would itself cure the world of liberalism! =D
Does anyone know of another charity with a focus on ALS? I got nominated and need to donate...but don’t want to waste my money if it goes to admin fees and salaries.
