The reviews aren't yet in for Scarlett Johansson's new movie Lucy, but a single viewing of the trailer is enough to give the film a resounding "two thumbs down" on science...
The idea that humans only use 10% of their brains is a complete, utter, and total myth. Lucy is entirely premised on neuroscientific BS...

Movie is accurate, women only use about ten percent of their brains, otherwise they would be conservative.
An undeniably pleasant figure corrupted by a face reminiscent of Fred Astaire in lipstick and rouge.
Her romance with Sean Penn has forever diminished any carnal thoughts that may have preceded it.
The author is a real hoot. I bet he gets his knickers in a twist when he watches Star Trek and figures out that none of it is true. To take a line from a different genre, “Lighten up, Francis.”
We use far less than 10%.
There are many parallel processing neuro circuits and we usually only use the slowest pathways.
In addition, the human brain is not the storage location or the processing location of consciousness. It is merely a transmission and receiving tool. You can totally destroy the physical body and the consciousness still exists. Further, all the memories experienced while it was anchored in the physical body are still there. I demonstrate this frequently in workshops when I present on the neuroscience of religion.
There are a lot beautiful entertainment stars who have detestable politics or who were in bad relationships. Personally, I don't care, but then...
I don't care :)
Psychobabble?
During voting time, many humans just act like robots.
It's okay, she visited my Marines, so she's good to go.
Most people probably peak at around 4%. From 1-3% when watching TV.
Are you sure she is a lib? She almost lost her job over her support of Israel . . . remember the fiasco over her Super Bowl commercial for Sodastream, an Israeli product.
Saw it last weekend. It blows chunks. Think “2001” meets “The Matrix.” With a little Jackie Chan thrown in for that ethnic touch.
What makes Scarlett attractive is not just her smooth glowing complexion, or her Doe eyes, or not even the (naturally formed) Cupid’s Bow Lips. Scarlett has that implausible combination of being Aloof, Alluring and (possibly) Available. She doesn’t set all her qualities on the Walgreens’ countertop like Miley Cyrus, for all the customers to see and fully know. As D. Rumsfeld would say, There is an ‘known unknown’ about Miss Scarlett. That adds to the excitement. I think that she will age gracefully, like Sharon Stone or Catherine Deneuve.
Post of the day.
The movie aside, I wonder just how much of our brains we do use. The human design includes considerable back up with a single brain.
I have seen reports of people who lost or never had all their brain matter and function normally. If not 10%, what amount of our brains is reserve?
You know how they say we only use 10 percent of our brains? I think we only use 10 percent of our hearts. —John Beckwith in Wedding Crashers
The idea that humans only use 10% of their brains is not scientific. It’s part of the popular culture.
Obviously we have more brain power than we are called upon to use in everyday life. How stupid would it be if someone said “We use 100% of our brain power.”
Darn it. Well, I guess I'll have to watch the latest Transformers then.
It has been posited that Einstein used 10% of his brain.
