After a great deal of hard work and numerous cuss words I've finally recorded my first song. The song is titled "Your Daddy Was Drunk and Your Mama Was Lonely," and I don't think that I can add much to that. If you like country music, or even if you don't, I'd appreciate if you'd give it a listen and give me your honest opinion. (Yes, I know what I'm in for by saying that, and no, no Butthurt Report Form will be necessary.)
A few quick notes:
1) When I registered with ASCAP "Slings and Arrows" was taken, so I used "Hopalong Ginsberg" instead. (A free virtual lollipop to those who catch the reference.)
2) Yes, I know what my voice sounds like. That's why I'm an aspiring songwriter instead of singer.
3) If you like the song, or even if you don't like the song, you can download the MP3 for free here. Take two, they're small.
4) So that I have an excuse to ping my kitty ping list:
I would never let him touch it...except for the right price, naturally.
I looked it up. Heh. I would have thought Hoppy would have been one of Kinky Friedman’s Chaiwaymen.
Nope. I have an awesome voice.
Just ask Shimmer1.
But really, I’d send the track as is and find a way to promote it, so it doesn’t end up in demo hell.
It can be tracked as is but, would be hilarious live, to play with and get a crowd going.
Good job.
Amazingly, no one was using the name professionally. Humanity never ceases to amaze me.
Truth be told, I was influenced by AC/DC , who put the voice a bit farther back in the mix than most. Maybe I put it a bit too far back.
My next step is to promote it, but I need to learn how. Again, I’ll cheerfully accept advice, and in the meantime will be hitting Google.
A live performance sounds like a great idea, but I’d have to get a band together. I’ll keep my eyes open.
Good suggestions. Much obliged.
All the same, I wouldn’t quit my day job and move to Nashville just yet. I’ll see if I can get you booked at the Chicken Wire Bar.
Other than the fact that “truck” don’t rhyme with “good”, it was good!
You ain’t quittin’ school, are ya?
No, I mean in Band in a Box, it’s called a violin. By the way, violin is simply more specific that fiddle: Violas and viols were also called fiddles; Viols are four-to-six-stringed instruments that are much like with frets.
Too bad Parsifal rode the lightning.
I think was a studio player for demo’s and setups.
He could have helped.
Make a contact who has a contact.
maybe find out who’s playing at the next state fair and see if they wanna run it.
> Ill see if I can get you booked at the Chicken Wire Bar.
Cool. I’ll start pricing rhinestone-studded riot armor.
Well, I sure wasn’t going to use what it did rhyme with.
Nope, not quitting school. Full-time pharmacists eat a bit better than full-time songwriters.
It was backward Elvis’ized.
In the latter recordings they kept bringing his voice forward of the instruments.
He disagreed and wanted a more balanced sound but, the bills kept cummin and the songs kept selling.
It was their view Elvis’ voice was the product.
You find a better sound in the remixes being played these days.
Again, appreciated. One reason I posted the song here was because Freepers are very well educated, and I figured I could get some good advice. (Aside from the fact that I wanted my FRiends to hear it, of course.)
Huh. I did not know that.
In some of the music I hear (both old and new), the voice is so far in front of band it doesn’t really sound like they’re playing together. Never liked that.
You are a very great blessing for all of us! (((Hugs)))
Bttt.
5.56mm
Awww, thank’ee! (((hugs back atcha!)))
