A DNA expert has has made the bold claim that ginger hair gene could die out if Scotland climate improves.
REDHEADS could become extinct as Scotland gets sunnier, experts have claimed.
The gene that causes red hair is thought to be an evolutionary response to the lack of sun in Scotland.
Redhead colouring allows people to get the maximum vitamin D from what little sun there is.
Only one to two per cent of the worlds population has red hair but in Scotland the figure is about 13 per cent, or 650,000 people.

So, I guess this means climate change will also cause different colors of hair dye to also become extinct? We better “warn” somebody!!!
Red hair dye looks fake; I don't know why people use it.
Blondes require two recessive genes, too.
The ancient Scythians had red hair, a long ways from Scotland. Scotland and Ireland do produce a lot of redheads. Maybe they will save the genes for it.
Oh great, gorebull warming caused me to lose most of what’s left of my grayish red hair.
Scotland? Extinct? Rumor has it that the occasional redhead can be found in Ireland too.
There are more than you’d expect in Northern Spain as well.
I believe this claim was debunked some years ago, but still makes the rounds every few years.
Why would it get sunnier?
This sounds like one of those stories put out to see how gullible the press is. I’m looking for it to be revealed as such or refuted within a week.
Lysenko! Thou should’st be living at this hour!
Ah here we go:
“Alistair Moffat (born 1950, Kelso, Scotland) is an award winning writer and journalist, former director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Rector of the University of St Andrews.[1] Moffat was educated at the University of St Andrews[citation needed], graduating in 1972 with a degree in Medieval History[citation needed]. While at St Andrews Moffat earned first team caps in both rugby and cricket, also playing basketball and athletics.[citation needed]”
There’s a sound scientific backgound, eh laddies?
“On the BBC Today Programme, Moffat made a couple of inaccurate statements, including that the company has discovered Eve’s “grandson” and that 97% of men surnamed Cohen share a common genetic marker.[13] These statements were later retracted by the chief scientist of BritainsDNA.[14] In the meantime, two geneticists at University College London, David Balding and Mark Thomas, as well as other UCL colleagues, have attacked both these statements and genetic ancestry companies in general.”

Is there anything these hoaxsters won’t claim is linked to “climate change”??
There was a hoax going around that “scientists” predicted that blond hair would disappear in the future.
We aren't going to die out. The gene for red hair is tied to the gene for reproducing like rabbits on caffine.

So...global warming will tilt the earth’s axis to deliver more sunlight to the northern hemisphere? Who knew?
Sheesh...someone doesn’t understand evolution.
Scotland was under a glacier 20 thousand years ago, and the ancestors of the Celts lived in the Ukraine back then.
First the bald eagle and then the spotted owl - now redheads!
We can’t hunt NUTHIN!
Now in my case, I'm the only one known for generations. None of my three children had red hair. Mine was carrot top red as a child, then darkened to auburn, by my 40's was turning white.
Not too many guys wanted to date me in hs. I did meet my husband but that was one humongous mistake.
