A cellphone video emerged this weekend of a California cop appearing to brutally beat a woman for no discernible reason on the side of a highway.
CBS Los Angeles reports that the video, filmed on Tuesday evening, depicts a California Highway Patrol officer angrily crossing the La Brea Freeway, yanking a barefooted woman down, and punching her more than 11 times in the face.
As of now, the CHP says that it is investigating the incident, but said in a statement that since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on this specific video segment without reviewing the entire incident. They also took the woman, who lacked identification, to a hospital for a physical and mental evaluation once she was in custody.
Heres an interview with the man who filmed the attack, courtesy of CNN:

The moment you are straddling someone punching down at them, you are the aggressor. Period. There is no set of circumstances short of wrestling for the cop’s gun (which she was obviously NOT doing) that would justify beating her about the head. He was not acting as an LEO at that moment, and he should be charged to the fullest extent of the law. If a cop can do that and not be charged, then there is no law at all in the US today...
If a relative of mine had died in a pileup because no one felt like pacifying her forcefully, then I would have done a lot worse than punch her a dozen times in the face.
Well that could be.
I’m not a regular watcher of law enforcement.
I could be totally wrong.
Hey! It’s a war on (Pick your cause dejour)! It’s not Nazi like when we do it! It’s all perfectly legal. We have laws against those people you know.
Have you ever tried to subdue a psychotic? Put your membership in the Rodney King fanclub aside for a moment and inquire further into the circumstances.
Wow, I’ve seen brazen before, but you just won some kind of cosmic award for it - the kind that sticks to your soul for all eternity.
Not to say he might have been able to accomplish the same without blows to the face, but that is an effective way to disable struggling person long enough to cuff them.
Can you post a link to the story which verifies that this woman was a dangerous, suicidal psychotic? I think I missed it.
I hear ya, sometimes a cop’s gotta do what cop’s gotta do. As long as he was pulling his punches 10-15 hits in the face probably just got her attention.
I’m sure at the police academy they teach you to grab women and throw them down on the ground and ground pound them MMA style just as long as you pull the punches. That’s the trick ya gotta pull those punches so you just bruise em up but don’t actually break their jaw. Gives em something to think about. Ya know. And if they get a brain bleed well they shouldn’t have been out walking on the freeway. Its not safe.
She might have even enjoyed it!/s
Ye dog
Ye woman
and ye walnut tree....
....the more ye beat them the better they be.
I don’t know.
Could be, or maybe not.
I often agree these sorts of videos do indicate excessive force.
Could be this time, or maybe not.
Not sure this time.
The cop doesn’t have a dog - cops shoot dogs. Now if he had a kitten ....
Yeh you’re right sometimes ya just gotta pop em a few hundred times. Especially when they are half your size and not resisting. Well except to put their hands up to ward off your blows.
If it was you or yours you might have another opinion on that
Yeh some women like it rough especially on the side of the freeway. Besides it was for her own good. (sarc) :-)
Oh, it was more than 200 punches? I guess I only saw one minute of a three hour film.
“I could be totally wrong.”
Bingo! The correct answer.
I’m not sure.
The woman was running barefoot, in the middle of the day, on a major metropolitan freeway, in Los Angeles.
That is pretty darned weird. All I am saying is, the cop who was the one who was faced with that, was dealing with someone who was clearly less than completely mentally stable, either she had taken drugs, or was otherwise out of it. Yet she was quite physically able to resist.
I don’t know. Just saying.
Maybe, maybe not.
My Mom (RIP) had a number of relatives in Cali. She always called it the "land of fruits and nuts"
