Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Yes I am, thank you! Off we go ...
A local gal. Jake is perhaps unfortunate in that regard. She probably knows Jake's every move. How is Jake going to save the world if he has a local gal that could be reporting on Jake's every move? Inform Jake please, he is on his own and might even have to reduce his rank after this revelation. On second thought, might want to keep this quiet. Jake does have a sword collection.
It was shaved down from the top; each turn of the crank milling off about a millimeter layer.
Nah. During the video you can see people popping in periodically with trays to collect most of the shavings. At one point, the camera shot includes what looks like a 5-gallon plastic bucket full of shavings in the lower foreground. Plus, I can just about guarantee you that floor is cleaner than the dishes coming out of your dishwasher.
“...could be done by the boys who have the Metalworking merit badge.”
So, it occurs to me to ask whether merit is the difference between “could” and “did”?
HOLY CRIPES!
I can imagine an armada of these rigs armored and advancing on point with the IDF through Gaza. They could mow everything taller than 6ft without exposing troops to unfriendlies hiding out indoors.
And, yes, as a matter of fact, just about every good idea can be militarized.
That was not fair. I don’t like chocolate in small doses. Pretty designs, but still...
That was pretty awesome, wasn’t it?
Back from Walmart with my Good Deed Accomplished. It felt so GOOD to GIVE for a change! (Besides to the thrift store...)
It will be 105 today and the humidity is already 59%. *sigh*
lolz
I’m back from my nap, having something to eat now that I can move my lips. It doesn’t hurt very much, but my left cheek is swollen.
Good point.
I hate that. It seems a fact of dental work, though. I’m hoping mine will start soon, now that I have submitted the paperwork.
The technician at our practice is quite skilled and very sympathetic, but it was still a lot of scraping and chiseling and power-washing.
For some of the work on my mouth, I will be, thankfully, asleep. I can deal with anything if the conditions are right. They will have a hard time with Novocaine, though, as it takes almost a double dose to have any effect on me.
While Ordinary Mary was here today, she suggested I use the Fabreze clips that are used for the car on the vents to overcome the stale cigarette smoke that builds up when I’m gone.
Just the little while I was gone with the front door closed was enough to build up the smell. GAH! That’s so AWFUL!
I bought four of them today, and they definitely make the place smell better. But holy CATS! Are they ever expensive! I think I paid almost $20 for them, and I’m hoping they last the 30 days as advertised. Otherwise the company will hear from me.
That was a good idea, but it’s too bad it’s so expensive.
There, I finished the tomato-mushroom-cucumber salad!
I tried the ones that plug in and they don’t last long, so in the long run, they are almost as much a month as the ones for the car are. At least I can close my door, now, and cut down on the heat loss.
How do you make your salad? What do you use for a dressing? And do you use onions?
Cut up tomatoes, chop mushrooms, seed and dice cucumber. Mix up. Toss with Key Lime juice and Sicilian lemon juice.
That sounds pretty good
Our garden is producing a lot of cherry and Roma tomatoes. A neighbor gave me the cucumbers.
You can also add lettuce of course, and use any kind of salad dressing you like. Sicilian lemon juice has a strong and unusually sweet flavor, so I don’t think it needs anything else.
