Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

If it was a straight howl, it was coyote wolf. They aren’t barkers, like coyotes, but they will yip in the family group at play.

Sorry, C-O...I meant wolf...My Bad.

Go ahead and laugh. At least I was able to eat something this evening, and I have a good excuse to go to bed as soon as I put the children to bed.

Not laughing at you. I would never do that. I just laugh at the memories of the sudden difficulty I had of doing everyday things.

Since then, even my mouth being Bill Cosby numb is not enough to make me complain. Perspective, I guess...

Ok..

I have a friend who is an engineer for CSX. This is one of the things he has bad dreams about.

I dunno, but I think I would have ducked a long time before they did. Oh. Wait. I’m not in contention for the Darwin Award...I try to actually USE LOGIC!

"I dunno, but I think I would have ducked a long time before they did."

I think the time to run is when you decide to cross the bridge, or maybe after the train has passed.

Good thing it wasn't those Duck Dynasty guys. It could have been a close shave for them.

Mr. Bill is back home and running like a dream, so I am grateful to the mechanics at the Muffler Shop who didn’t give me a lot of grief about a part I provided.

It is enough that I don’t have to pay a taxi again or walk to 7-11 when I want some ice cream (when I’ve run out of the GOOD stuff), so I am ever so grateful to those who have provided me with “wheels,” information and advice.

I LOVE FR!!!

Yeah!!!

On the bright side, you won't need to replace a fuel pump for another hundred thou miles... ;-)

Just don't try to drag race a train to the crossing.. ;-)

I have a lead foot, so it’s best I’m in a 4-cylinder, 5-speed baby suv because otherwise, I probably would have put my foot in the carburetor a long time ago and killed my cute little self.

(And to think I wanted a Corvette, when I could have gotten a custom for $10,000....)

The years on my body don’t seem to mesh with the years in my heart and I still feel a need for SPEED! I love the smell of high octane and burning rubber in the morning: They smell like....DRAG RACING!

Well, now that your fun for the day is done, sit down and relax...

A suggestion...

Got it. However, I will find the appropriate bottle in the early AM when I scope out the prices on the also appropriate gifts of food for the gods of mechanical restoration. I need to thank those boys... (At MY age, they are ALL boys!)

I don’t recall 34...perhaps because I haven’t reached it yet..?

And what goes better with the wrap-up to a long day at the track than relaxing around a nice camp stove with a little something to drink, and stacks of chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers?

DANG! That look like the pot bellied stove that was in our bedroom when we were growing up! The brothers hated to fire it up at night, thinking we might grow up to be GRILS!

AWESOME!

I don’t recall 34..

Well... I don't either.

I just remember that I'm five years older than my baby Sis, so when I need to know how old I am, I ask her how old she is and add 5...

Well, see...? I had three brothers and three sisters, but one of each has departed this earth for a better place.

That leaves me trying to figure out where I REALLY fit in...age or experience?

The fire in the eyes is something else, again.

That crew at a Make magazine always has something neat they’re blogging about. Last week it was this:
