The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

My ice cream maker has no such item. It’s actually just like to hand crank models, except you plug it in to churn it.

For some reason though it paddles aren’t churning inside the can, and no matter how long you keep the ice packes and the unit turned on, the ice cream doesn’t firm up.

I just pick the oldest leaves first. A few at a time, because I add them to salads or soups, so I don’t need a whole bunch.

I suppose you could pinch off the end to make it bushier and limit the height, but I tend to just let stuff do whatever comes naturally.

Main thing with cukes is to harvest. The plant puts it’s energy into growing the fruit larger, and less into new cukes. Also when cukes get really large, then the seeds are more prominent, and inside gets a bit mushy when I pickle them.

I don't worry about anonymity. If some jerk wants to come dance, I live alone, and don't have hostages or anyone in the field of fire.

Dec 2009 should have been the end, but I lived anyway. Everything else is gravy.

I don't worry about a lot of things. ;)

If I didn’t have a job, I’d be camping on my land full-time no matter what.

(Actually, that was the plan this summer if I lost my job. Camp and garden.)

My land is an hour away from my office, and my truck is 20 years old. I’m not sure how long it could make that trip every day, but I’m considering it. There is also the chance that my employer would let me camp in the back parking lot, I know they’ve let other people park campers there who were going through rough times. There are also a few people closer to town who might be willing to let me park a camper on their land.

I’m looking at options right now.

They arrived this past week, big enough to ride. Seriously. I felt one biting me a couple of nights ago & I thought it was a fly. I usually can’t see them anymore.

I made this today with tromboncino subbing for eggplant. Tastes pretty good, but I am the slowest vegetable chopper upper in the world. I think it took me an hour to chop everything up.

Mine aren't big enough to ride, but they sure like to chomp on my ankles when I go out to the cattle panels to check my cucuzzi and tromboncinos, and when I go over to the tomato/pepper patch.

Injecting the Tromboncinos with BTK seems to have helped. I didn’t see any new frass today, but did pick a few SVB eggs off, plus two stink bugs yesterday on the Tromboncinos.

On the Cucuzzi front, I’m finally getting lots of female flowers, and not just males. I counted four baby cucuzzi today, and I have one that should be ready to pick tomorrow.

I'm making hand crafted ice cream ($6/quart for ingredients) and brownies. The twin teens will be visiting this weekend. ;)

I'm pretty fast at chopping veg. Something about those thousands of hours standing with a knife in my hand, doing prepwork while I was in my internship. ;)

I have 7 Trombettas (big ones) on the kitchen counter that I’m about to use up. This morning, I got some extra flour, sugar, and Stevia at the store so I can modify my go-to Zucchini bread recipe. Just made a pot of spaghetti sauce and had some over Tromboodles for lunch (the first time I’ve used Tromboodles) - really good!

The Cucuzza is loaded with male flowers and not many females. I have one really large C-squash that has lost its fuzz so I’m guessing it is ready for harvest any time now. It’s long, but not so big around - had to make a sling with a bungi cord to keep it off the ground! There are several small C-squash that I’m hoping are pollinated .... maybe 3-4 inches long so they have a ways to go yet. No SVBs or squash bugs this year that I’ve noticed - yay!

Since you told me about having that zucchini bread for dinner, I’ve been thinking/dreaming about it ..... probably going to happen at my house tonight :-)

I posted to greeneyes on an old thread the other day ..... you’re not alone in doing that! I just copied it to the most current thread & said “sorry”! :-)

Trombetta bread is IN the oven. That’s loaf #1 - between the spaghetti & this loaf, I used up one Trombetta so that gives me a clue as to how fast I’ll use the other ones up. Too many squash is a problem I’m glad to have after having no squash last year.

There is a lday who goes by Kim D on the internet. I think she is the Cucuzza Diva. I googled:

She even has cucuzza cream pie..I bet tromboncinos would work with her cucuzzi recipes, too.I bet you are going to enjoy your bread. I sure enjoyed mine.

How much land do you have? Do they allow permanent housing, or is it strictly a camp ground.

My parents bought two camping sites in Branson Mo. Although they spent most of their time at Treasure Lake, they bought the second, in case hard times might interfer with paying the mortgage.

Treasure Lake had some sort of limitation on long term camping, so they needed to be able to leave for 30 days before they came back I don’t remember how long they could stay/specific details.
