A newly engaged friend asked, "Kirk, why did your marriage last so long?"
"That's easy," I replied. "I just told my wife, if you ever leave me, I'm going with you!"

"Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." Ephesians 5:22-33
"He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD." Proverbs 18:22
""But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." Mark 10:6-9

Considering that these days, most Hollywood types change partners as often as they change underwear, this is a wonderful story.
Happy 60th anniversary to the Douglases.

Cute. Kirk is old, but God bless him...he and his boys are exceedingly talented men.
Hope he knows Christ...

One of the few Hollywood marriages that lasted a long, long time. A testimonial to true love. His wife is to this day a very pretty and elegant woman. He was a lucky man in many ways.

A great actor, a great producer, a great filmmaker. Yes, in recent years he’s gotten a little...out of control (senile?) but in his hayday, he was a genius. And he came from total poverty. His son isn’t a patch on the old man.

Congrats on your long-term marriage. I’ve been married 22 years. Not much, I guess, but I’m proud of it.

22 years is an excellent start. My wife and I have been married 47 years!
To: jumpingcholla34
22 is indeed an excellent start. And 47 years is even better! Congratulations to you both.

Mr. Douglas suffered a stroke some years ago. Can't speak specifically for him, but stroke does cause brain damage. Sometimes major, sometimes minor. Last time I saw Mr. Douglas, he had difficulty talking, but I didn't notice diminishment of his mental capacities.
