A lost bet sent two teens wearing only the stars and stripes into four Tega Cay area businesses Monday night before police halted the patriotic display.
The teens visits to a QuikTrip, Hardees, Pelicans SnoBalls and Walmart drew attention not because of the apparels theme. Rather, the teens skimpy outfits caught the eyes of customers, employees and, eventually, the police.
The pair were only wearing Speedos and sunglasses.
Fort Mill teens Houston Vandiver and Michael Pearson chronicled the night on various social media accounts. Vandiver was on the graduation list for Nation Ford High School in May and Pearson was on the list for Fort Mill High School.
Neither could be reached for comment.
Early in the night, Vandiver posted on his Twitter account, Anybody wanna chill with me and mike (sic)? Shortly after, short video clips created on the Vine app show Vandiver and Pearson in Speedos, first at a QuikTrip convenience store to get a drink.
Im feeling patriotic today, Pearson says in the video.
In the next video, the pair are at Hardees.
Whats that smell, Vandiver asks, fully clothed, before the shot cuts away. In the next shot, hes just in the Speedo.
Freedom, he says, and Hardees employees appear to laugh behind the counter.
Then, they move on to Pelicans SnoBalls. Another Twitter user, who saw the pair at Pelicans, calls Pearsons Speedo infamous.
The duo appears to move on to Walmart, where an employee called police to report male suspects running around in only underwear. The employee said Vandiver was being loud, boisterous and offensive, according to a police report. Several customers were offended by what they witnessed.
A Vine video shows Pearson and Vandiver walking through the store. It then shows Pearson saying, Houston just got caught.
A series of Instagram photos and tweets from Pearson show him hiding from police officers, behind a dumpster and next to a car before making it home safely.
Made it home safe followers. Tune in next time for the adventures of (Pearson), he tweeted, following with #RIPHouston.
Vandiver didnt make it home on Monday night. He was charged with disorderly conduct and released Tuesday morning on a personal recognizance bond, which means he promises to appear at a scheduled court date. He told officers he had lost a bet, and he and another teen had to run through the Walmart in Speedos, the report stated.
After he was released, Vandiver tweeted a picture of himself, tongue out, court papers in hand.
WHATS (sic) THAT SMELL?! #FREEDOM, he tweeted. A few minutes later, he posted this, I'm not in any trouble guys. No worries.
In 0bama's Amerika they are lucky they weren't shot.
Couldn’t they have just escorted them out? Did they really need to charge them?
Sheesh, we have the most uptight society in the whole world.
Several customers were offended by what they witnessed.
They must have been first time shoppers at Walmart and have never seen the pics of Walmart shoppers that make the email circuit on a regular basis. At least they had underwear on, unlike some in pics I have seen of other shoppers.
So let me just play devils advocate for a moment
. Both the Walmart and the beach are public spaces. What is it that makes it absolutely ok to wear a speedo on a beach and absolutely not ok to wear it in a Walmart? Not advocating this
just asking.
Back when I was a kid, businesses had signs on doors that said “No shirts, No shoes, No Service”.
There is a dress code at Walmart? Who know?
>> “There is a dress code at Walmart?” <<
.
Yes, you should have toilet paper dragging behind you from your clothes.
There is a dress code at Walmart? Who *knew*?
A beach is a public space. A business facility is a business that allows customers to shop there.
The next story on the page is about a nekkid man being arrested in Walmart.
Said he woke up nekkid and wanted to buy some clothes.
Said he woke up nekkid and wanted to buy some clothes.”
Have to admire his original thinking.

In the little town where I grew up my cousin used to run around in his pajamas. I ran into him at the grocery store one morning and he was there in his pajamas buying bacon and eggs. He rode the riding mower down there.
Funny story. Just small town America - too bad everyone didn’t get to grow up in such a place.
In the even smaller town where I live now we have an “Uncle Harry”. Apparently he was a bus driver back in the days when we had a school district.
We still have stores with the “NO SHOES, NO SHIRT, NO SERVICE” signs here.
They kick someone out for wearing bathing suits. Yet black thugs go around with their jeans down to their knees. And the underwear section in all stores show a lot of skin.
I thought of that too, but these kids weren't looking for service. They were just there.
Sorta like a kid tagging along with his mom going shopping.
Just without the mom.
