CNN has updates on the story of the Georgia SWAT team that threw a flash bang while executing a no-knock warrant that severely burned a nineteen-month-old baby. Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell says the deputies involved are "devastated" and that they've been called "baby killers" and received threats. "All I can say is pray for the baby, his family and for us," the sheriff told CNN.
Terrell has insisted his officers and those of the local police department did nothing wrong and blamed the target of the warrant (not found at the house that was invaded) on the attack on the toddler. A chief assistant district attorney for the county, J. Edward Staples, says the target of the warrant could in fact be charged for the injuries the sheriff's deputies caused the toddler. In an obvious attempt to immunize himself and his office from liability, the sheriff has claimed the situation was unavoidable even as he attempted to offer reassurances that his SWAT team would be more diligent in the future. He told CNN that his officers "obviously would have done things different" (IF they knew there was a child in the home), like go in through a side door or not use a flash bang.

I love the policeone poster who posts in ALL CAPS CUZ THAT’S HOW THEY DO REPORS BACK AT THE DEPARTMENT.
What a douche.
Ummm... yes dear sir.....just don't pass out powder, ball, musket, and cannon to the Torries or Redcoats.
In todays terms, the unarmed militia, that is your common citizen, should have the same, if not better armaments than the police and military.
Denying a G-d-giving RIGHT to self-defense to a law abiding American citizen due to their party affiliation was said in pure jest. I just don't want them voting to take those rights away, which since 1934, they have been VERY efficient in doing!
Were there folks on the other side of the law to use one of these, it would have been a bomb or grenade. However, since law enforcement did it, it is merely a flash bang. Not so bad, right?
“it is merely a flash bang”
They referred to it as “a distraction device”.
Which you,me, and "mere" citizens cannot own without the blessing of BATF, a Form 4, $200 transfer tax for a DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE .
It might have had something to do with the two armed guards and the unarmed undercover officer...
So are you going to be doing some testing to make sure that only people who agree with you on certain political issues get all the armor?
Total Bull Shit! Time to start charging Sheriff’s...
Sorry. The cops did it. Not the target of the warrant. Didn’t a SWAT team kill a hostage a few weeks ago and then change the suspect with it?
If I did that, not matter how good intentioned I was, it would still be deadly assault
It’s better than that, they are going to charge someone who was not even there. this is level of idiots running around with badges today.
I’m seeing some of the comments at least see this as overkill. One flat out called it that and acknowledged that this crap is killing their reputation with the public.
One commented that letting them flush the dope is more punishment than the courts would give.
Now that gives me an idea. Cops show up at a suspected drug house. Give them some time before going to the door. Be patient, wait for the door to open.
“Hello, we just wanted to invite your children to a cook out, and invite you to a townhall meeting so we can discuss police interaction with the public.”
Then walk away smiling at the thousands of dollars of drugs making a sewer gator happy.
Remember the tales of how the Soviets would bill the families of the people they murdered for the price of the bullets? It's the same, statist, merciless logic.
In America, this redneck sheriff would be sporting tar and feathers right now. If he was lucky! In the USSA we now live in, he will be overwhelmingly re-elected. "Tough On Crime", y'know ...
Good deal.
CHUTZPAH, BABY!
PING!
My heart bleeds....
Oh wait...
Nope, sorry, that's just salsa.
*applause*
