People have been waiting a long time for this, said Ducks forward Emerson Etem, who grew up rooting for the Kings in his native Long Beach. Its huge for the game down here.
And its huge for the Los Angeles sports scene, which has never experienced a matchup quite like the series that begins in Orange County on Saturday night.
The Lakers and the Clippers have never met in the NBA postseason. The Dodgers and the Angels have never reached the World Series together. The Rams and the Raiders never reached the Super Bowl at the same time when they both called Southern California home nearly two decades ago.
But in their 20th season of head-to-head competition for the hearts of the Southlands hockey fans, the Kings and Ducks are squaring off for a trip to the Western Conference finals.

Go Kings! Ducks is somehow a funny name for a pro sports team. That is OK.
Bruins Canadiens are meeting for the 34th time.
I would have preferred that too but the Sharks choked.
I predict the Kings win The Cup.
You just don’t beat San Jose four times in a row, unless you are the hot team at the right time.
IIRC, they began their existence as “The Mighty Ducks” consistent with a marketing tie-in with Disney, which had a then recent film of that same name.
I am kinda rooting for the Ducks to win. Maybe win the cup for a few years in a row. Would be a real Duck dynasty, so to speak.
You are right, they are hot, but I would not go that far. The final seven games are a long way off.
Since I’m in LA gotta root for the Kings..but I would be happy with either outcome, Ducks fans tend to live in the OC, but heck I love my Angels so I guess it doesn’t matter where you live
San Jose is a perennial disappointment and never seems to have it all together, but I agree that the Kings are looking very strong. It’s not often that you find a team with the combination of three attributes that make them such a strong contender — they’re big, fast, and relentless. And I’d add that they have the best coach in the NHL right now. He looks and talks like someone who’s just finished sniffing glue, but Darryl Sutter really knows how to get the most out of his team.
They can get cold just as “Quick.”
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

Good Evening Star...
Good evening to you, D1. :)
Thanks. Hope life is treating you good. Take care...
Thornton in the playoffs reminds me of the Wings Pavel Datsyuk(”The Magician”)...he’s a magician not because he makes 1 or 2 spectacular plays...but because he then disappears the rest of the series.
I would so love to go to each game. And sit in a nice seat. I wi$h.
the Sharks so choked as per usual.
