Stephen Colbert is the rumored top pick to replace David Letterman as host of Late Show on CBS. Letterman announced he plans to retire in the next year or so.
Colbert 'first engaged with network executives' while Letterman was still thinking about the best time to retire, Mashable reports.
Sources tell the website that CBS has spoken to other candidates - including Colbert's Comedy Central colleague Jon Stewart - but that Colbert is the 'front-and-center' pick for the job. They also say Colbert has not yet had any formal contract discussions nor is there an agreement in place.

There you go...that just about sums it up. The only one I halfway like is Jimmy Kimmel...but none of them come close to being a Carson.
She just resigned her $9 million job at E. Supposedly was a shoo in.
Colbert is certainly nasty enough a character to take over for Letterman. Both are equally unappealing and biased.
Chelsey Handler would be a far better pick.
Colbert bores me to death because he’s not funny. I’m not sure how he got past the auditions, much less got a show of his own. He used to do GM commercials, and I always thought they hurt GM more than they helped. He has the charisma of an armadillo.

Chelsea has always seemed rather ‘unbalanced’ to me. I don’t mean right or left in a political way. I mean mentally. When listening to her, I always get the impression of someone with barely concealed rage and contempt for whoever is being forced to pay attention to her. I always picture her with a drink in one hand and a pearl handled pistol ( or some sort of toy) in the other hand. She’s a loose canon. Maybe that’s what they’re looking for.
I used to show YouTube "Here's Johnnnnnny!" clips to my Dad (using a computer I'd hooked up to his flat panel). Both of enjoyed a hour or so of that at a time.
Get the guy who stood in for John Stewart. He was FUNNY!
