BERLIN - After concluding that global warming almost certainly is man-made and poses a grave threat to humanity, the U.N.-sponsored expert panel on climate change is moving on to the next phase: what to do about it.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, will meet next week in Berlin to chart ways in which the world can curb the greenhouse gas emissions that scientists say are overheating the planet.
It is also trying to give estimates on what it would cost.
In the third report of a landmark climate assessment, the IPCC is expected to say that to keep warming in check, the world needs a major shift in investments from fossil fuels - the principal source of man-made carbon emissions - to renewable energy.
(snip)
Investments in fossil fuels such as oil and coal would have to drop by $30 billion a year, while spending on renewables would have to go up by $147 billion annually, according to the draft.

I hope it's ok to post this paragraph in addition to the excerpted article.

Good luck getting China to take this seriously.
Despite the arrogance of mortal man, discovery is not created by decree. They can spend as many Trillions (not Billions) of dollars as they wish, renewable energy sources will require new science which will not occur by mandate.
Never, NEVER ever group the terms UN and expert.
The sum IQ of the entire organization requires only numbers preceded by an “i”. (Look it up, Algore.)
Yeah, that's why the states surrounding Lake Superior have frost lines that are down 8 to 9 feet - two to three feet below the 6 foot utilities code line, which usually protects water & sewer utilities from freezing.
Not this year...
Solyndra on a world-wide scale. Those third world socialist dictators are salivating at the prospect of grifting trillions from the US and Euros. Of course the UN bureaucrats will say whatever it takes to do so in the report summary, regardless of the evidence.
In the end it boils down to one thing. Ending capitalism.
Limousine liberals that jet around the world on a whim deciding for the masses.
The lefties love to point to Germany’s solar program while ignoring its severe downsides. The problem with solar power in a cold climate is the sun goes down. And there is no good way to store solar power. So Germany has to come up with a way to cover power needs after sunset. Nuclear is not well-suited to be switched on and off. So what does Germany do? Burn coal. And firewood. So much for green solar power.
There have now been 2 blade breaks in the last 2 months.
The massive and multi-million dollar solar array at the Indy Airports spent the coldest days of the winter half-covered in snow and without any sunshine.
Luckily, fossil fuel power was there to take up the slack.
Just out of curiosity. Has anyone ever done any study on what might have happened had we never discovered oil and took it out of the ground? Could it be that maybe this planet would have one day exploded or turned into a flaming ball of gas? Just wondering.
Don’t forget that some of their power comes from over the border in France, and is likely nuclear.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
Why? Just because China is stamping out coal-fired power plants like cookies is no sign that they would be affected by an "anti- CO2" measure whose sole actual target is the US economy.
Thought they said that peak production of oil had ceased which means we only have another hundred years of “fossil fuels” to use up anyway. Let the problem work itself out.
Or maybe.... there’s no problem at all!
