Captain America: The Winter Soldier is first and foremost a rousing sequel, the kind that makes you giddy that the Marvel movie pipeline is working at full capacity.
It's also a film we're unlikely to see screened at the Obama White House thanks to its anti-NSA message.
The new film offers some political undercurrents not seen in most superhero epics, from fears of government spying to the need for unvarnished transparency. It's all fused to a Marvel-approved template starring actors who know precisely how to bring two-dimensional characters to the big screen.

Uh...no.
WNB.
Perhaps his actual influence at Marvel is severely waning.
The first Captain Marvel film never came to Comcast, Starz or Showtime. I waited and waited. I finally got to DVR it last week on TBS...or TNT...I forget. But I'll be watching it this weekend for the first time...skipping over commercials.
Yup, I'm a cheap SOB.
You need to switch the brand of crack you're smokin'.
Literature 101: There are only three.
Man vs. man.
Man vs. nature.
Man vs. himself.
WB till me junk fell off. After forcing her to gargle gasoline to get the taste of cigs and Ryan Reynolds out her mouth, of course. ;D
Like Elvis, my drugs are USP-grade prescribed by a doctor.
But I will take your advice and discuss with Dr. Feelgood. Thank you.
Forget Ryan Reynolds...Sean Penn’s been in there.
PERMANENT BAN ENACTED!!!

And to think, sixty years ago these kind of movies would have been considered B&W cheapie “B” budget movies and fifty years ago, shown only only with other si-fi fantasies at the drive in or Saturday matinee double features with Hercules and the Voodoo Women.
Now, they are given the “A” budget treatment and so many are released every week that, at our six movie plex, the average films are, three fantasies and si-fi movies, two teen movies, and a cartoon movie.
Very few movies of the high quality of 60 years ago are released today, maybe one a month.
We are truly living in a fantasy oriented world!
Ick. Well I think they make special condoms for people with the AIDS, I’d get me some.
He’s banging Charlize Theron now.
If I were alone in an alley with him, I’d throw a brick at his head.
Saw it last night and LOVED it, loved how the “Parasite” inside of SHIELD was in a way an alegory to the Parasite inside of the current state.
I loved that Cap was complaing to Nick Fury and later was proven absolutely correct.
I also loved the blatant references to “A New World Order” and how they showed how wrong it is to pursue such an idea.
Can’t wait to see Agents of Shield this Tuesday either, for the direct followup to the events of the movie. I don’t think there’s ever been that kind of synergy before, with anything else. Marvel has really shown how tightly they can couple together a movie series that is now up to 9 films and will go to at least 16 and have very high expectations to where Agents is going to go from here on out.
I’d go ga ga over it IF IT IS A LITTLE PRO-CHRISTIANITY.
It was subtitle The First Avenger to tag into the Avengers movie reminding viewers it was the penultimate movie in Phase One of the great MCU plan. Which was a pretty bold plan the likes of which hadn’t happened in cinema before. There was never any real controversy in Marvel Studios about the name, they’ve got the sales figures they knew Captain America was a globally popular character.
That’s true of just about any action film. Good writing makes the difference. How many different fights, explosions, wild rides are there?
She’s fake, a fantasy, a will-o-the-wisp.
Spot on.
I’ve never seen Agents of Shield. Every Spider Man movie just seemed the same. Which Marvel films did you like?
