This happened to me on SR 41 in Tampa on Monday March 24th. This pathetic excuse for a human being tailgated me for about three minutes. After about a minute, and me shaking my head, I pulled out my phone and started recording. I couldn't move over because there were trucks in the right lane, and I sure as heck wasn't going to speed on a rainy day with the roads being as slick as they were. I was turning left in about a half-mile when this happened. Now bear in mind, that this guy had already passed a truck in a left turn lane, was tailgating and driving recklessly on a wet slick road, wasn't paying attention, and all in all being an ignorant ass. Not once was I mouthing off, I never brake checked him, and in fact until I watched the video after the accident I didn't even know he shot a bird at me because I wasn't looking at him at all, I was paying attention to the road while holding the phone up with my right hand. I've recorded circumstances like this before, catching idiots doing stupid things, but never ever had this happen.
He initially fled the scene of the accident, but thanks to this video he has been caught and charged. Massive props to the Sheriffs Department and most especially the Highway Patrol who responded to the scene. This moron could have easily killed somebody with his moronic behavior, and my laughing at the end would have been replaced with tears. Needless to say though, I've never seen Karma come back so fast.
*****EDITED TO ADD******
WOW! I go to work and come back to over 600,000 views and find it's on theblaze.com and various other media sites. I'm flabbergasted! (love for an excuse to use that word). I'm also a little saddened and shocked at some of the comments. After the umpteenth death threat and billionth time being called a b!#$h/c$%t/whore/slut/add whatever epithet you want... I am extremely amazed at how rude people are.
Apparently people seem to think that they were right there and know exactly what was going on. You weren't there. You don't know what happened other than the truth that I told. And apparently I did get a comment of someone who he had done this same thing to... thank you for that.
I appreciate the comments of those that, even if they disagreed with me, they didn't resort to bullyish behavior, they stated their response and I respect that. To those that wished death upon me, I truly hope your life isn't as miserable as you portray online. Because some of those comments belong to people that belong in a psycho ward, or at the very least, anger management/therapy. They were rude, uncalled for, and just downright mean.
So because of those hateful warmongers, I have disabled all commenting on this video. Have fun talking about me in your forums, and on Reddit, or wherever else you talk smack on. Just know... I won't be there. I think my ears are itching... somebody must be talking about me. Where's my Q-Tip?
Goodbye and have an awesome and amazing rest of your day. I'm gonna go pet my dog, feed my fish, watch some TV, and sit my "fat" self on my sofa ;)
How am I misrepresenting the law?
It is always nice to have ones comments appreciated, and coming from such early adopters of FR as yourselves even more appreciated. It goes both ways. Good driving is a life long education process, and as older and wiser freepers know, you never stop learning before during and after the gateways of birth leading to mortal life and death leading to immortal life.
If I began driving at 16 that would put my experience level at 58.
Ok.
Let’s say a car is going 90 in the left lane, no one else on the road, completely free and open right lane, and a car comes up at 110 in the left lane and tailgates the left lane car.
You’re saying the left lane car at 90 will get a ticket for holding up traffic?
But its not dangerous for her to go in to the right lane?
You are confirming my assertion that you are a danger to others when traveling on a multilane road.
Stop it..........I don't need any more help from you to prove that point.
“You are claiming someone going over the speed limit will get ticketed for going too slow?”
Yes its illegal to impede traffic. Going slower then the flow of traffic causes accidents.
You make no sense.
How is it safe for her to go in the right lane but not the speeder behind her?
There were minimum speeds established on interstate highways for this very reason. Also for this very reason, slower vehicles are required to move right to allow overtaking traffic to safely pass in the left lane.
Passing on the right puts overtaking traffic into much closer proximity to slower traffic and therefore creates “friction.” It's also largely unexpected, as the highways were designed for passing on the left.
It is not a huge conveyor belt with multiple choice lanes for you to choose to putter along in. There is a specific pattern of traffic flow that was considered and accommodated, and refusing to abide by this creates a greater risk of accidents overall than going with the flow as intended.
This means moving over to the right for traffic stacked up behind you. Allow them to pass, where passing is safest, where it was intended to occur.
“She might actually have been deliberately matching speed with the flatbed to block the pickup from passing on the right. “
People driving on that highway do it all the time. They will also hang on your bumper so you can’t switch lanes to get around them.
That highway is an industrial area with very heavy truck traffic. People like her make it more dangerous.
Yes, that's the law.
It was discussed, on talk radio, newspapers, legislature, water coolers, extensively before the legislative votes were taken.
I noticed a difference on the interstates within months.
“Yes its illegal to impede traffic. Going slower then the flow of traffic causes accidents.”
Yeah, all those too slow speed traps you see...
This is a joke. While true, it is only extreme circumstances when such a thing will happen and does not give carte Blanche for speeding.
She's the slower driver.
Give it up guy. Do everyone a favor and stay off of multilane roads.
Who knows, the life you save may be your own.
Yes, she's a jerk, but she did not cause him to wreck.
Unsafe movement? She maintained her lane. Not gonna happen there.
Contributory Negligence? In what way? Explain how she contributes to him losing control of his own vehicle.
Refusing to yield? Maybe, but more likely impeding traffic.
Distracted? Quite possible. However, she did not directly contribute to his deliberate acceleration and swerving to cut her off, which resulted in his losing control of his own vehicle. He was the one controlling his own actions and vehicle (well, until the very end, anyway).
Huh? The passing lane is the lane closest to the center in a multi-lane highway, period. You'd do yourself and other drivers a huge favor if you'd familiarize yourself with the rules of the road.
If she is impeding the free flow of traffic she is breaking the law. If she is video taping while driving she is breaking the law.
From your comments, you are showing the world that you must be one really BAD driver. I’m a little more nervous knowing that guys like you are on the road. From your ignorance of the concept of passing lanes, how the hell did you pass the written exam when obtaining a driver license, or are you one of those drivers from beyond our shores who the DMV just hands a license.
On that stretch of road, I wouldn’t move to the right.
That’s the fast lane, sure.
Passing lane? What year is this, 1930?
From her laughing voice, near the end of the video, she is a black woman who is overjoyed that the “redneck” got into an accident because of her.
<><><><><><><><
I’m a white male, and I laughed out loud at the jacka$$ who was so consumed by absurd rage that he wrecked his own vehicle.
The accident was not because of her. That’s just ridiculous. He chose, all on his own, to attempt to cut her off to express his rage, and his action, all by itself with no input from anyone else, caused him to lose control of his vehicle and get into an accident.
Yes you are a joke. That I agree with.
One question in that video. Who crashed?
Not her.
Learn to drive is what I say to you.
She did nothing wrong at all.
Tailgaters will never get the benefit of the doubt.
Speeders cause death.
It would be cool if you could actually articulate something interesting, but I guess not.
