Can anyone recommend a good dental discount plan? And are there any plans out there that should be avoided?
Medicare provides dental? My wife must have missed that.
We just signed up for one that’s $62 a month for both of us. There is a $100 a year deductible and it pays for two cleanings a year and 40% to 50% of everything else. At our age we figure we’re going to need it.
We also have a dentist who charges about half of what other dentists charge and will bill it so that we get the most paid for.
Medicare never covered any dental before except I think they covered dentures. Mine starts in May.
I have found no dental insurance or discount plan that is worth the money. I have found that your best tools to get the best prices on dental procedures are cash and your telephone. This works best if you are in a well populated area with plenty of dentists. I have found that most dental plans only have the highest priced dentists as members and that crowns, fillings, cleanings and any other dental procedure can be found for less in a few phone calls especially if you are willing to travel a little. If you have a dentist that you really like and want to go to him exclusively why not approach him/her to take you on as a patient that pays a monthly fee to get preventive care and all other care at the rate they would charge the lowest reimbursement insurance they deal with. Most dentists rate right up there with used car or insurance salesmen.
Brush with 3% H202 and you’ll never have to worry about a cavity.
Some dentists give a discount for paying on the day of the treatment. You might find that what you pay not having insurance is no more expensive than the cost of dental payments plus copay.
Besides stopping cavity formation, 3% hydrogen peroxide will stop any periodontal disease in its tracks and reduce canker sores in the mouth and the lip to hardly any.
Medicare covers cleanings. Crowns, fillings etc. are out of pocket.
In Oklahoma ... for people at the poverty level, dentists have organized together to provide top-notch dental work for free.
It’s also being done that way in other states, too.
For Medicare, it’s basically pulling out a bad tooth. That’s about it.
And brushing with baking soda. Rinse with hydrogen peroxide. Do not swallow hydrogen peroxide.
Medicare does not cover dentures. Check it out on their own website. Also sign up online and establish your own Medicare online account. It’s very useful to have that.
Baking soda has nothing on H202! It’ll clean your mouth on level you’ve never felt before.
I’m retired and have Delta Dental through my former job. It’s been a great plan, and covers much of many procedures. I’d vouch for their company. It’s worked well for me. Of course, mine was through work, but even for non work coverage they would be a good company to use.
For many years my dental plan was to chew on the other side.
Once I got dental “insurance” I found that it really is just a dental discount. It is not insurance at all. My premiums are $700 or so a year plus a $50 deductible, and the max “benefit” is $1000. Use it or lose it.
In my mind, insurance is a safeguard against an occasional high-cost event. Dental insurance is not like that. It is more like paying up front for expenses you may or may not need. The “insurance” company doesn’t really pay out much. You do.
Three, and they are very happy.
Actually, my dentist recommends flossing BEFORE brushing.
The reason being, when you brush then floss, if there's anything you get out from between your teeth, it's still there.
If you floss first, then whatever you get out from between your teeth is brushed away.
Indeed most dentist will over-work on your teeth to make
the most money. I am lucky to have a dentist who is personal
friend and does the least amount of drilling necessary.
On occasions I will floss first if there is lot of food
stuck between teeth. The important thing is to floss.
The remaining food will breed bacteria which attack gums
and tooth itself.
