Was it ultimately a race about race?
The best picture Oscar is meant to honor the year's greatest achievement in film, and "12 Years a Slave" had no shortage of supporters before winning the top honor Sunday. But for all the film's artistry, the undercurrent of many "12 Years a Slave" conversations hinged on race and how Hollywood has for decades given short shrift to one of the most inglorious chapters in the nation's history.
All the same, two Oscar voters privately admitted that they didn't see "12 Years a Slave," thinking it would be upsetting. But they said they voted for it anyway because, given the film's social relevance, they felt obligated to do so.

i can just vision the moment now, “The nominees for best film of 2014 are”.....”Typical White People”, “25 Years Of Racist Plantation Owners who own the NFL”, “250 Years Of “The N Word”,24 Months of White Hispanics, and finally,”376 Years Of White People Hating Everyone Who Ain’t White People”.
At least Milli Vanilli pretended to do something.
I didn’t watch the Oscars but one of the talk radio shows played a couple of Ellen’s jokes as host. One was something like: “Lots of suspense tonight. There is a 50% chance that 12 Years a Slave will win Best Picture, and there is a 50% chance that you are all racists.”
lol!!!
Flat out lame movie. The main character is supposed to be a very educated black man yet he can’t figure out which way is North for twelve years. All in all, it was not worth the bandwidth to steal it and my media player only skipped forward at 10 second clips. Those two that didn’t watch it saved their last remaining brainc ells to rub together.
Next year’s Best Picture:
“Travon”
It was ordained to honor another white-guilt-trip movie to win this year.
Can’t wait to see a movie based on a non-black family torn apart by a brutal death at the hands of a black flash mob or “knockout” game.
When’s that drama coming to the screen?
Next year it will be back to gays again. And Ellen will lead them to the water...

Hey, hundreds of members of our congress (if not every one of them) never read the multi-thousand page Obamacare crap, yet they voted for it. Is anybody surprised?
right, next year the winner will be based soley on the name of the film. (kinda like what i predicted in a few replies back).we could star wars part 7,forrest gump part 3,jaws part 17,the excorsist part 9,and “Revenge For Slavery”..so who will win?
I have no intention of seeing the movie, but as soon as I heard about the Oscar award thing, PC was the very first thing that entered my mind. If it had not won, would they claim racism? I would say the chances of that would be better than even. I hate racists.
"Political Correctness" has clouded most areas of social interaction in the U.S., indeed in the entire Western world, for decades now.
Exactly as the Nobel peace Prize being awarded to Yassir Arafat (at any time,) and Buraq Hussein Obama (after being in "office" as president, for a whole month!)
Where is the Black Academy of FIlm anyway?
Doesn't really matter, does it?
FMCDH(BITS)
They were the designated Affirmative Action voters this year.
Four years from now, when the “first” Obama movie is made, it will automatically earn the Oscar for best movie. Two years later, when Obama “part deux” is made, it will get a second Oscar for best movie.
When the movie about Osama bin Laden is made, it will be about how he was so misunderstood, and it too will get an Oscar from the politically correct dimwits in Hollywood.
A film about one of our founding fathers, or about Jesus Christ, won’t even be nominated for an Oscar.
Perhaps it’s time to establish a competitor to the Oscar, and it could be called, the “Reagan”, because, he was a movie star, and a president who believed in what America stands for, and didn’t go along with the politically correct BS.
And I didn't see either one of the movies.
